Corruption & Deck
| Corruption Value / State | Chapter | Details |
|---|---|---|
| 48% | 174, 178 | Her condition remains critical after an attempted card deletion; Li Qing determines that at least two further card draws would be needed to save her. Her mental state is unstable and highly aggressive. |
| 40% | 251 | She deletes the Royal Moth and Hyena cards herself, regaining greater clarity and self-control. |
| 33% | 484, 485 | She maintains that she can control her sanity despite remaining above the Bureau's safe threshold, and refuses to further disrupt her deck by removing the Knight or Squirrel cards. |
Her original high-tier deck consisted of Seraph, Pegasus, and Knight, a combination noted for its offense, recovery, defense, and mobility. The Star Society's later use of incompatible cards—including Royal Moth, Hyena, Undead Spider, Black Goat, Shadow Tiger, and Squirrel—destabilized her genes and drove her contamination 174 179 614.
Background
Ye Zheng is a first-generation Inspector whose military record made her a widely promoted anti-Xenomorph hero. The Supervisor General Bureau used her public image to reassure civilians during the crisis, though her reputation also left her vulnerable to political pressure and public scrutiny 162 178.
While stationed in Yunhai City, Ye Zheng repeatedly sought a transfer back to Qingjiang City. She was worried about her partner Zhou Diao, the growing number of local Xenomorph cases, and the safety of Qingjiang's residents. Mei Junyu rejected the transfer request, instead informing Ye Zheng that she had been shortlisted as a primary assault member for a dangerous Maze operation 36.
She proceeded with the Maze expedition despite warnings about its pollution. During the operation, she became separated from her team after killing at least one Xenomorph. Her disappearance prompted Su Yuqing, Feng Ling, and several Hunters to search Zones B and C for her 73 161.
Contamination
Ye Zheng was ambushed by three Xenomorphs—a straw-hatted boy, a short man, and a tall woman—whose cards were specifically suited to destabilize her deck. The resulting gene collapse transformed her into a powerful Contaminant with moth-like features, severe mental instability, and a violent hatred of Xenomorphs 178 181.
Feng Ling's group discovered her in the Maze after she had mutated into a deformed, unnamed Lord-level creature. Feng Ling initially prepared to kill her if she had fully lost her humanity, but instead restrained her and worked with Li Qing to reduce her Corruption Value 170 174 175.
To conceal her condition while escaping the Maze, Ye Zheng proposed amputating her conspicuous mutated limbs. Feng Ling carried out the amputation, allowing Ye Zheng to be disguised beneath blankets and a skull mask for transport back to Qingjiang City 176 177.
Su Yuqing publicly reported that Ye Zheng had died after sacrificing herself during the Xenomorph ambush. In private, Feng Ling sheltered her in the unfinished Qingjiang Financial Center Building, where she lived under the name “Zhengzheng” and survived on jelly suited to her altered body 178 180 181 185.
Appearance
Before her contamination, Ye Zheng was a young woman who wore a white blouse and fitted black trousers while serving in Yunhai City 36.
Gene pollution later left her with a partly human, partly insectoid body. Her form repeatedly shifted as incompatible cards fought for control of her genes.
- Brown, fur-covered moth wings, later bearing a Royal Moth pattern 170 185.
- Moth-like antennae and altered pupils 177 229.
- Powerful black tiger claws, sometimes marked by faint tiger stripes 187.
- Mutated lower limbs that made normal sitting, standing, lying down, and climbing painful or difficult 176 180 187.
- A larger Second Form with six arms, enhanced durability, and white angelic flames 171 260.
- Recurrent physical instability as cards such as Royal Moth, Shadow Tiger, and Undead Spider altered her body and instincts 614 648.
Personality
Ye Zheng is disciplined, duty-driven, and intensely pragmatic. As an Inspector, she believes that operations require clear objectives, detailed plans, and defined priorities; she reacts harshly when others treat retreat or civilian safety too casually 229 252.
Her professional judgment extends beyond combat. She understands the value of public morale during wartime, recognizes how authorities use heroic narratives to sustain hope, and can assess the political consequences of public messaging 219.
Her contamination magnifies her anger, suspicion, and hatred of Xenomorphs. At high Corruption Value, physical discomfort and frustration can trigger violent outbursts, particularly when she encounters squirrels or Xenomorphs associated with her ambush 187 203 243.
Despite this volatility, Ye Zheng remains deeply protective. She repeatedly places Feng Ling's safety above her own, worries about the Nest Body, and continues to treat the defense of human lives as her responsibility even after losing her public identity and human body 346 555 709.
Abilities & Skills
Seraph
Ye Zheng's Seraph card provides her most destructive abilities.
- Releases large-scale white flames capable of incinerating nearby monsters and terrain 171 225.
- Its ultimate attack, Radiant Holy Flame, can burn living beings across a roughly hundred-meter area 259 544.
- She later uses Angel's Wrath to annihilate Drunkard's mummy army and severely injure Drunkard 725.
- The ability consumes immense energy; after major uses, Ye Zheng can collapse or become unable to fight effectively 225 478.
- Her flames are dangerous to allies caught within their range, making her reluctant to use them without a clear opening 259.
Mental Pressure
Ye Zheng can project powerful Mental Pressure to suppress enemies and resist hostile mental effects.
- Can immobilize or terrify weaker opponents, allowing her to kill Xenomorphs and Contaminants at close range 203 617.
- Her pressure is more effective when her body is larger; transforming into Second Form can strengthen it against oversized targets 214.
- Pressure can clash with or interfere with allied mental abilities, requiring coordination with Feng Ling and other mental-type users 246 543.
- It may affect allies as well as enemies, forcing Ye Zheng to withdraw it when friendly combatants are nearby 617.
Speed, Mobility & Regeneration
The Pegasus, Hyena, and Royal Moth cards grant Ye Zheng exceptional speed. She regularly outpaces Feng Ling in human form and can move across walls and difficult terrain with extreme agility 179 256 312.
- Pegasus provides powerful self-healing and contributes to her ability to recover from severe wounds 176 231.
- Her speed advantage lets her lure or intercept large enemies, including serpent monsters and Pseudo-Gods 478 479.
- Gene instability can weaken her movement, reactions, and ability to maintain Second Form when her energy is depleted 221 260.
Contaminant Second Form
Ye Zheng's transformed battle body grows substantially larger, gains six arms, and can rapidly recover from injuries.
- Her enlarged form can physically overpower Pseudo-Gods and tear them apart with claws and brute force 171 260.
- It enhances her Mental Pressure through increased body size 214.
- Maintaining the form drains energy quickly and becomes difficult when she is exhausted or her Corruption Value destabilizes 260.
Tactical Training & Demolitions
Ye Zheng served as a tactical instructor during the Supervision Bureau's early expansion. She trained other Inspectors and developed a coordinated fighting style for the twins Bai Lu and Bai Shuang 299.
- Understands how to maximize explosive damage by opening cavities in a target, placing charges deeper inside, and increasing the internal blast surface 239.
- Directed Feng Ling during repeated bombing operations against the Guangshan Maze's Meat Mountain 256.
- Prioritizes clear plans, retreat routes, weapon allocation, and role coordination 252 289.
Equipment & Items
- Skull mask — used to conceal her identity and altered appearance after escaping the Maze 177.
- Large tablet — purchased by Feng Ling to accommodate Ye Zheng's claws; later used for planning and displaying information 536.

- Matching ring — wears a ring matching Su Yuqing's, which he provides as an identifying detail during the search for her 168.
Relationships
- Feng Ling — Rescuer, closest ally, and frequent rival. Feng Ling hides Ye Zheng after her contamination; their bond develops through shared combat, strategic cooperation, arguments, and repeated physical fights 176 246 408.
- Su Yuqing — Partner and former lover. He searches desperately for Ye Zheng, publicly announces her death to protect her reputation, and prepares a moth-friendly habitat for her in Qingjiang City 36 178 185 338.
- Zhou Diao — Former partner and Qingjiang colleague. Ye Zheng worries about him while stationed in Yunhai; seeing him after her transformation triggers intense distress and unresolved guilt 36 188.
- Li Qing — Trusted adviser on cards, Maze mechanics, and Corruption Value. He helps reduce Ye Zheng's Corruption Value and frequently mediates between her and Feng Ling 174 251 556.
- Huangfu Miaomiao — Teammate sheltered alongside Ye Zheng by Feng Ling. Their relationship is often tense, but Ye Zheng helps rescue her from the Meat Mountain and later fights to save her from the Star Society 233 503.
- Bao Changzhi — Emotional stabilizer. His mental ability calms Ye Zheng's pain, rage, and unstable thoughts after her contamination 181 225.
- Meteor — Enemy and source of intense hatred. Meteor reveals that she founded the Star Society and exploits Ye Zheng's anger and distrust during their confrontations 556.
- Cow Knife — Allied Corrupted lifeform that follows Ye Zheng's commands during the Mother Nest conflict and kills Drunkard after Ye Zheng's ultimate attack leaves her weakened 724 725.
Story Role
Maze Expedition and Disappearance
Ye Zheng enters the Maze operation despite its known pollution risk. After becoming separated from her team, she is found as a powerful Contaminant rather than the celebrated Inspector everyone is searching for 73 161 170.
Hidden Survival in Qingjiang
Following her rescue, Ye Zheng is officially declared dead while Feng Ling conceals her in the Financial Center Building. She struggles to adapt to a moth-like body, high Corruption Value, pain, hunger, and the loss of her former identity 178 180 187.
Guangshan Maze Campaign
Ye Zheng becomes Feng Ling's most important frontline partner during the Guangshan Maze campaign. She provides demolition expertise, fights Pseudo-Gods, challenges Feng Ling's reckless decisions, and helps destroy the Labyrinth Master's forces 239 256 260.
Star Society Conflict
Ye Zheng continues investigating the Star Society and the Xenomorphs responsible for her transformation. Her hatred of Meteor nearly overwhelms her, but she remains committed to protecting Feng Ling, Li Qing, Huangfu Miaomiao, and civilians threatened by spreading labyrinth corruption 503 555 617.
Acceptance and Final Sacrifice
After meeting newer Inspectors and fighting alongside the Quarantine Zone teams, Ye Zheng begins to accept her condition and finds renewed purpose in defending humanity from Abominations 709.
When Feng Ling and Meteor devise a body-exchange plan to stop the invasion, Ye Zheng chooses to digest the highly incompatible Demon King card and establish a Reincarnation Vessel. The mutation overwhelms her, and Feng Ling kills her as the plan proceeds 743.
