Pei Xianjue led the team back to the Quarantine Zone.
On the way back, they encountered two more Soul Eaters.
The two Soul Eaters followed the convoy at a measured distance without showing any intent to attack. Their tattered-rag-like bodies drifted in and out of the mist, like Ghost Jellyfish in the deep sea.
Wang Xunmei, who was driving, broke out in goosebumps. She wasn't afraid of wolves, tigers, or leopards, but she was terrified of things that appeared and vanished without warning.
They finally left the thick fog behind, and the surrounding scenery gradually came into view. The sky became clear as well. Wang Xunmei glanced at the rearview mirror and saw that the two Soul Eaters had disappeared.
She breathed a sigh of relief and muttered softly, "Good thing they didn't follow us."
"Obviously, Soul Eaters can only move through the fog, and they only attack creatures with high weakness levels. Our weakness levels are relatively low, so we're fine~" Huangfu Miaomiao's tone carried a hint of pride. Being able to help Pei Xianjue made her feel accomplished, and a little smug.
Several team members began discussing it in the car.
"Our weakness levels are low because we weren't in the fog for long. If we explore deeper, it'll definitely take more time, and our weakness levels will rise higher too."
"That's right. We didn't even really enter the Maze just now. We only came into contact with its outer edge."
"Who knows what it'll be like once we're inside the Maze. This fog is too troublesome. It makes it easy to get lost and causes weakness too. Luckily, we now have a way to counter it."
Listening to everyone talk, Huangfu Miaomiao couldn't help curling her lips upward. Hehe, she deserved some credit for discovering the countermeasure.
