Background and History

Lingling is the daughter of Ye Qingxian and Zhao Yan and the granddaughter of healer Ye Renxin. Before Lu Xuan joined the Ye household, she had few playmates and spent much of her time alone. Training with him made her more cheerful; his Muscle-Tendon Changing and Marrow-Cleansing method also improved her appetite and health 1 2.

Her awakening threatened a painful choice for the family: no more than two living people could bear the Nine Heart Begonia at once. Ye Qingxian deliberately degraded her own martial soul to give Lingling a chance to inherit it, while Ye Renxin tested a medicine that induced a deathlike state. Lingling understood that her mother had sacrificed her strength for her and resolved to work toward breaking the family’s inherited limitation 5 12 13.

Before the awakening, Lingling consumed a Ten-Thousand-Year Ginseng King to strengthen her foundation. Although the Nine Heart Begonia weakened during the ceremony, she emerged with twin martial souls rather than the single complete begonia her family had hoped for 14 15.

Training at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

After Zhao Yan suffered a grave injury and lost an arm, Lingling repeatedly healed him during the journey home, resting only to replenish her Soul Power before continuing. His near-death experience impressed upon her the consequences of insufficient strength and made her even more diligent 53.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Lu Xuan arranged for her to cultivate beside the 5,000-year Nine Heart Begonia intended for her third soul ring. Her practice accelerated the plant’s growth, while the plant appeared to subtly repair and strengthen her martial soul. Recognizing its potential as a lasting family legacy, Lingling offered to find a different third soul ring rather than kill it. Lu Xuan initially deferred the decision until Ye Renxin returned 53 55.

When the Nine Heart Begonia produced a green fruit at great cost to its vitality, Lingling exhausted her Soul Power trying to heal it. After Lu Xuan planted the fruit, she patiently alternated between nourishing the old plant and seed with healing power and restoring her reserves through Nine Yin Inner Power. The fruit eventually sprouted, while the original begonia remained in recovery, leaving neither suitable for her immediate advancement 56 61 67.

Third Soul Ring and Soul Bones

Lingling ultimately abandoned the plan to use a Nine Heart Begonia for her third ring. Lu Xuan instead arranged for a Clear-Verdant Spirit-Horned Deer to sacrifice itself after eating a Spirit-Gathering Cloud-Milk Flower. The herb strengthened the deer’s soul without increasing its 5,000-year cultivation age. The sacrifice brought Lingling to level 38 and produced the Clear-Verdant Spirit Horns external soul bone 67 69 70.

She later absorbed an Azure Jade Bird wing external soul bone, whose life essence helped her reach level 40. Despite qualifying to seek her fourth ring, she proposed waiting to accompany Lu Xuan on his own soul-ring hunt. She and Dugu Yan also told their elders that they wished to travel and gain experience with him after he became a Soul King 96 98.

Divine Inheritance and Fourth Soul Ring

Lu Xuan revealed to Ye Renxin that Lingling had received the God of Life’s inheritance, while Dugu Yan had received the Goddess of Kindness’s inheritance. Ye Renxin warned the three young cultivators to conceal their divine inheritances from everyone, including their families, until they became gods 104.

During the subsequent soul-ring hunt, Lu Xuan subdued a rare variant 50,000-year Ginseng King after an hour-long spiritual struggle and compelled it to sacrifice itself to Lingling. Its vast life essence made it an exceptionally high-quality fourth soul ring. After completing absorption, she reached level 44 and reported feeling close to level 45 108 109.

The Ginseng King also left a 50,000-year left arm soul bone. Lingling chose not to absorb it herself, considering it suitable for her mother instead. Once her ring absorption was complete, Lu Xuan took her into his Spiritual Space while the group continued its hunt 110.

Lingling is gentle and considerate: she softens Dugu Yan’s blunt remarks when the girls first meet Lu Xuan and checks him for injuries when he returns from obtaining his first ring 1 4. She is also diligent and competitive, postponing advancement to seek a stronger third ring rather than settling for an easier option 2 24.

Although her primary martial soul is devoted to healing, she dreams of traveling the continent, righting wrongs, and fighting on the front lines. She wants to learn offensive techniques from Lu Xuan rather than rely on physical strength alone 28 42.

Her concern for her family can outweigh her immediate cultivation ambitions. She offered to preserve the Nine Heart Begonia as a hereditary resource instead of using it for her own third ring, and patiently cared for it after its vitality was depleted. Her father’s severe injury also motivated her to train harder and repeatedly heal him whenever her reserves allowed 53 55 56 61.

Lingling is selective rather than acquisitive about soul bones. She declined valuable bones that did not fit her intended development, preferring to collect six water-attribute soul bones and leave suitable plant-type bones for her grandfather and mother 60 76 89.

With Lu Xuan, she can be affectionate, playful, and possessive despite her usual reserve. She enjoys coaxing him into indulging her, openly offers him affection, and willingly delays her own soul-ring plans to accompany him 36 44 50 60 98.
