The battle between two Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts was not as extravagant as Spirit Beast battles on the Douluo Continent, but it was still breathtaking.
One swipe of a claw snapped a nearby tree in half.
When a tusk struck a boulder, stone fragments flew everywhere.
Chu Xiu's blood surged as he watched.
If he could kill them too, what kind of superpowers would their Cores give him?
"Then again, I'd better forget it. If I ran into them now, they'd kill me in an instant."
Chu Xiu shook his head with a rueful smile.
Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts were still beyond his reach.
He returned to the beach.
Qian Renxue, Ning Rongrong, and Shui Bing'er were still fast asleep.
Chu Xiu had been on the Deserted Island for several days without going back once. Since he was alone today, he decided to take a look.
Apart from the notification boxes, this was the only privilege he had as the island's owner.
"Return!"
Chu Xiu focused and silently repeated the word.
A wave of dizziness hit him. Light and shadow twisted around him, and a few seconds later, the scene settled. Chu Xiu was back on the Douluo Continent.
Outside Shrek Academy.
Wearing the same clothes he had worn when he left, Chu Xiu stood exactly where he had been teleported to the Deserted Island.
The only difference was that he had left at night, and now it was daytime.
"Judging by the sun, it should be around ten o'clock."
"So time on the Douluo Continent and the Deserted Island runs at the same rate, but day and night are reversed? A twelve-hour difference?"
Chu Xiu was not sure his conclusion was right.
Perhaps he had spent days on the Deserted Island while only a few hours had passed here.
If time moved much more slowly here, the three women on the island might wake up while he was gone.
It would be trouble if they could not find him.
"I'll test Extreme Long-Distance Vision and Sound Wave Perception, then head straight back."
His main reason for returning was to test his two new "superpowers" and see whether they worked differently here than on the Deserted Island.
Gray energy flowed from his pupils, and his vision rapidly extended outward.
A thousand meters, ten thousand, a hundred thousand...
At roughly five hundred thousand meters, a mountain blocked his view.
"Holy shit! That's incredible!"
Chu Xiu could barely contain his excitement.
Unless something blocked his view, he could make out every blade of grass and every tree on a mountain five hundred thousand meters away, as clearly as if he were standing right in front of it.
He really did have eyes that could see a thousand miles!
"Now for my hearing."
Chu Xiu closed his eyes. As the sounds around him reached his ears, a three-dimensional image instantly formed in his mind.
Every blade of grass and every tree within a thousand meters fell under the watch of his Sound Wave Perception.
He could sense not only moving things, but stationary objects such as rocks and buildings, thanks to the echoes bouncing off them.
"This is unbeatable."
"Too bad my mental strength isn't enough yet. I can sense everything within a thousand meters, but I can't process all that information at once."
"But... huh?"
Two familiar voices suddenly reached Chu Xiu from within his range of perception.
In a room on the second floor of Shrek Academy.
Yu Xiaogang, Tang San, Flender, Liu Erlong, and several others had gathered there.
"Little San, you're finally back."
Yu Xiaogang gazed at his prized disciple, delighted.
Tang San had just returned from Slaughter City. He reeked of blood, and even his voice was frighteningly cold. "Teacher, I'm back."
"I trained in Slaughter City during this time. I'm now a level fifty-six Soul King."
As Tang San spoke, five Spirit Rings rose one after another beneath his feet.
Flender and Liu Erlong both drew sharp breaths.
"An eighteen-year-old Soul King. I've never heard of such a thing."
"As expected of someone with Twin Martial Souls. Xiaogang, you found yourself quite a disciple."
Seeing his prized disciple become a Soul King at such a young age, Yu Xiaogang looked more pleased with himself than ever. He could not help bursting into laughter.
"Of course. I may not be good at much else, but I know how to spot talent."
Flender gave him an odd smile. "Is that so? Then why do I remember you having another disciple?"
Yu Xiaogang's expression instantly turned cold.
"Hmph. Don't mention that good-for-nothing to me. I've already severed our master-disciple relationship."
Tang San gave a cold laugh and joined in:
"I said long ago that Chu Xiu's useless Martial Soul made him unworthy of being Teacher's disciple. He wasted so many years of Teacher's time. He's been asking for death for years."
"Little San."
Liu Erlong gently rebuked him. "This isn't Slaughter City. You need to rein in that hostility."
Tang San glanced at Liu Erlong.
His desire to kill Chu Xiu had nothing to do with spending too long in Slaughter City.
He had wanted Chu Xiu dead since shortly after becoming Yu Xiaogang's disciple.
The reason was simple.
He needed Yu Xiaogang to devote himself entirely to helping him cultivate, and Chu Xiu took up too much of Yu Xiaogang's attention.
If he had not been so weak back then, and afraid that a murder investigation would damage his reputation, he would have quietly taken action long ago.
Fortunately, although Yu Xiaogang had not severed ties with Chu Xiu at the time, Tang San's subtle prodding had made him come to dislike Chu Xiu and direct all his resources toward Tang San.
Otherwise, Tang San might have acted already, and Chu Xiu would never have lived to see the day his Deserted Island Martial Soul came of age.
Outside Shrek Academy.
Chu Xiu gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, trembling with rage.
Becoming Yu Xiaogang's disciple had been Chu Xiu's choice, but Yu Xiaogang had also taken the initiative to secure him from Spirit Hall.
Chu Xiu had served as his test subject for years, yet when the experiments failed, Yu Xiaogang blamed him for wasting his time.
That heartless master and disciple were the ones asking for death.
"Tang San, Yu Xiaogang, just you wait. I won't let either of you die easily."
Chu Xiu's hatred had reached its limit.
He would give anyone who wanted him dead a taste of their own medicine. But simply killing them would not be enough to ease his hatred.
Besides, he would need to reach at least Soul King level before he had a chance of killing Tang San and Yu Xiaogang.
Chu Xiu could not wait that long.
"If I can win over either Ning Rongrong or Shui Bing'er first, then inherit her Soul Power, I'll gain another Desert Island Survival slot when I reach level forty."
"And then... heh heh heh!"
Chu Xiu smiled wickedly.
He had already decided that his next survival companion would be the most important woman in Tang San's life.
Of course,
That woman could not be Xiao Wu.
Though Xiao Wu was important to Tang San, she was only a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soft Bone Rabbit. She was neither the descendant of a divine beast nor someone with a specially mutated Martial Soul.
Every one of Chu Xiu's Spirit Rings had to be perfect.
A mere Soft Bone Rabbit was not worthy of becoming one of his Spirit Rings.
Besides, the best way to take Xiao Wu would be to grow stronger and snatch her away right in front of Tang San.
Even if he brought her to the Deserted Island now and made her his,
What would be the point if Tang San could not see it?
So the woman Chu Xiu truly intended to bring to the Deserted Island was the other woman who mattered most in Tang San's life.
