Yu Xiaogang, painfully ordinary yet absurdly confident
Bibi Dong took a few steps, then, as if struck by a thought, asked Yue Guan.
"By the way, does the teacher know?"
Yue Guan nodded. "The Pope found out and instructed me to tell you that Her Highness the Saintess Hall will handle Yu Xiaogang's matter herself."
Bibi Dong nodded. "Then I understand. By the way, did he register as an individual when he entered the city, or under the name of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan?"
Yue Guan replied, "It's in his personal capacity, not in the name of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan. The person registering the information said he came to Spirit City to join the Spirit Hall."
Bibi Dong stopped in her tracks, stunned. "Join the Spirit Hall? Where does he get his confidence from?!"
"But since it's in a personal capacity, that makes things easier. Where is Yu Xiaogang now?"
Yue Guan explained, "Since Yu Xiaogang's registration upon entering the city was to join the Spirit Hall, he should have been taken to the registration office in the Spirit Hall by now."
Bibi Dong said, "Let's go, take Gui Mei with us and see how Yu Xiaogang will join the Spirit Hall, and what his purpose is."
Bibi Dong and Yue Guan arrived at the registration window of the Spirit Hall, where the Gui Mei had already silently disappeared into the shadows in the corner.
The registration office was a small side hall on the outermost perimeter of the Spirit Hall, where many people were organizing files.
A long table stood against the wall, and behind the table sat a deacon in charge of Deacon.
Yu Xiaogang stood in front of the table, looking travel-worn.
He was covered in dirt from his journey, but he stood ramrod straight, his face bearing a self-assured composure and confidence.
The Deacon took out a file and a pen and began to question Yu Xiaogang.
Yu Xiaogang answered with a confident expression.
"Name."
"Yu Xiaogang."
"Age."
"Sixteen."
"Martial Soul and Soul Power."
"Martial Soul Luo Sanpao; Soul Power: Level 11."
Upon hearing this, the Deacon paused, his pen still in his hand, and looked up at Yu Xiaogang once more.
"Sixteen years old... level eleven Soul Power, you're not mistaken, are you?" the Deacon confirmed.
Yu Xiaogang stood ramrod straight and nodded. "That's right, sixteen years old, level eleven Soul Power. Martial Soul: Luo Sanpao, Mutated Martial Soul."
"I think I should be able to join the Spirit Hall."
Upon hearing Yu Xiaogang's confident words, everyone except the Deacon stopped what they were doing and looked at him.
"Where did this ordinary guy come from!?"
But since this was the headquarters of the Spirit Hall, they didn't say it aloud.
The Deacon still wrote Yu Xiaogang's basic information in the file, for no other reason than that any Soul Master could join.
After registration, the Deacon said, "As long as you have Soul Power, you can indeed join the Spirit Hall."
"With your Soul Power, you could be assigned to the Sub-Hall in the Small Town as an archivist."
Yu Xiaogang was stunned. "What! You've assigned me to a remote Small Town?"
You're not mistaken, are you?
The Deacon replied, "Of course not. What, is Sub-Hall in Small Town not part of the Spirit Hall?"
Yu Xiaogang raised his voice and said, "But I came to Spirit City to join the headquarters."
The Deacon said, "You said it yourself, this is headquarters. The lowest- Hall Guard Knights at headquarters must start at a Great Soul Power Soul Grandmaster level, and the lowest-ranking archivists must start at Soul Elder level."
"Otherwise, what power do you have to protect the people of the city, and what power do you have to maintain the headquarters' archives?"
After the Deacon finished speaking, the registration area fell silent for a moment. Several Deacon organizing files nearby exchanged glances discreetly, none of them uttering a sound, but each had something pressing on their lips.
Yu Xiaogang stood in front of the table, his expression changing.
Yu Xiaogang took a deep breath and said calmly, "Although my Soul Power is low, I have unique insights into the research of Martial Soul Theory."
"The Spirit Hall needs theoretical research talent. I can conduct research on Martial Soul, organize ancient texts, and compile theories."
The Deacon put down his pen, leaned back in his chair, and sized him up. "Martial Soul research?"
"Yes." Yu Xiaogang nodded. "I have studied the theory of Martial Soul Mutation for many years, and I have dabbled in topics such as the innate defects of Martial Soul, acquired compensation, and Twin Martial Souls."
The Deacon chuckled, his expression blank, and asked, "So, do you have any achievements? Have you published any papers? In which Soul Master journal have they been published? Do you have any recommendations from scholars within the Spirit Hall?"
Yu Xiaogang's face flushed with anger and embarrassment as he retorted, "No, but if you let me study in the Spirit Hall's Library Pavilion, wouldn't I achieve results?"
"What gives you the right?" the Deacon asked calmly.
"What!" Yu Xiaogang was stunned.
The Deacon said, "What makes you think you have the right to enter the Library Pavilion and browse the books?"
"Just because of your words? Or because of your talent of breaking through to level eleven Soul Power at sixteen?"
Yu Xiaogang's face flushed red instantly.
Yu Xiaogang clenched his fists, but in order to get into the Library Pavilion...
His anger quickly subsided as he said, "I can start from the very basics. Organizing books, copying files, anything is fine. As long as I can stay at headquarters, I'm sure I can prove my worth."
The Deacon shook his head, his tone remaining calm. "The rules of the Spirit Hall headquarters weren't set by me. Archivists must start with Soul Elder; that's the hard standard. Eleventh-level Soul Power isn't enough."
"If the Spirit Hall is to make an exception based on just one of your words, where are the Spirit Hall's rules and authority?"
"Only when the rules are firmly established will Soul Master not be troubled."
"Well said!" Bibi Dong led the way into the registration area. "The Library Pavilion isn't a place just anyone can enter."
Bibi Dong finally understood why the Heaven Dou Royal Academy had previously refused to let Yu Xiaogang join.
That's too common.
"It's you!" Yu Xiaogang immediately recognized the person who had beaten him in Heaven Dou City.
"What do you mean, 'you'!" Bibi Dong said coldly, "Either go to the Sub-Hall in the Small Town, or get out of Spirit City."
"Your Saintess Hall!" The Deacon and others reacted and bowed in greeting.
Yu Xiaogang's expression changed. "The Saintess of the Spirit Hall!"
"Oh, right, I think I said before, I'd beat you every time I see you." Bibi Dong realized what she meant and stepped forward to throw a punch.
"Yue Guan, Gui Mei, beat him up!"
Before Yu Xiaogang could react, he had already received a punch to the face.
"Bang!"
He staggered back two steps, knocking over a chair behind him, and hit his lower back on the corner of a table, making him wince in pain.
"You...!"
He covered his nose, and before he could finish speaking, Yue Guan had already stepped forward.
With a muffled thud, Yu Xiaogang's back slammed against the wall, leaving him breathless from the impact.
The Gui Mei emerged silently from the shadows, stood in front of Yu Xiaogang, and expressionlessly raised its hand to gently press on Yu Xiaogang's shoulder.
Yu Xiaogang felt a numbness on one side of his body, and his body trembled.
He slid down the wall and collapsed to the ground, too weak to even lift his arms.
"Alright." Bibi Dong clapped her hands, looking down at Yu Xiaogang, who was sprawled on the ground. "Throw him out of Spirit City."
The Deacon and several staff members stood to the side, none of them daring to utter a sound.
The Saintess the Spirit Hall, accompanied by two Titled Douluo- level experts, defeated an eleventh-level Soul Master at the registration desk.
If this gets out, the entire Spirit City will be in an uproar.
Gui Mei picked up Yu Xiaogang, who was as stiff as a dead pig, and quickly threw him outside the city.
After a while, Yu Xiaogang came to her senses and pointed at the walls of Spirit City, saying, "Good, good, the Spirit Hall is going too far!"
"You'll regret this..."
