Lu Yuan finally sat up from his recliner.
He glanced at Tang San, who was watching him intently, then looked back at Yu Xiaogang. When he spotted the round Luo Sanpao, a teasing smile tugged at his lips. "Are you sure you want to fight?"
"Just to verify something," Yu Xiaogang said firmly.
Lu Yuan sighed, stood up, and walked toward Big Luck.
He opened the door and climbed into the cab. With one hand on the steering wheel, he stuck the other out the window and crooked a finger at Yu Xiaogang.
"Come on! Today, you can get hit by Big Luck just like Tang San did."
Yu Xiaogang frowned, unable to make sense of what he meant.
Tang San's expression changed, and he hurried away.
He had no desire to stand beside Yu Xiaogang against Lu Yuan and Big Luck.
Tang San knew his limits. He backed all the way to the doorway.
Yu Xiaogang gave it no further thought and immediately ordered Luo Sanpao to attack Big Luck!
"Luo Sanpao, Thunderous Fart! Heaven-Shaking Thunder!"
Luo Sanpao sucked in a huge breath, his round body swelling in an instant.
Then a golden pillar of lightning burst from his mouth and blasted toward Big Luck with a piercing roar!
The strike was powerful enough to blow a boulder to pieces!
But Lu Yuan did not even glance at the lightning. He simply pressed the accelerator.
Big Luck's engine gave a low growl, and its black steel body surged forward!
Boom!
Luo Sanpao's attack struck Big Luck's front end without leaving so much as a scratch!
The instant the golden lightning touched the vehicle, it scattered into motes of light and vanished into the air.
Unscathed, Big Luck kept charging straight at Luo Sanpao!
Yu Xiaogang's pupils contracted. "Luo Sanpao, dodge!"
It was too late. Big Luck had already hit him.
Thud!
The impact rang out, dull and heavy.
Luo Sanpao did not even manage a scream before the front of the vehicle sent him flying. He slammed into the dirt!
His round body sank into the ground, leaving only half his head exposed. His little eyes rolled back; Big Luck had knocked him unconscious.
Yu Xiaogang stood frozen, his mind blank.
The Luo Sanpao he took such pride in, the Thunderous Fart attack that had made his name, could not even break through his opponent's defenses!
And his opponent had used no spirit skill at all. The sheer physical force of his Martial Soul had crushed Luo Sanpao!
How was that possible?!
Yu Xiaogang stared at Lu Yuan inside the black steel beast. His lips trembled, but he could not force out a word.
At the doorway, Tang San watched with a prickling scalp, his teeth clenched so hard they ground together.
He had still clung to the hope that his mentor was right: Lu Yuan's Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring was fake, a disguise, a Visual Illusion.
But after seeing what had happened to Luo Sanpao, he could no longer deny it. Lu Yuan's Spirit Ring really was a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring...
Just then, Lu Yuan leaned out the window, looking impatient. "Hey! Done staring? Then get out of here. You're holding up my dinner!"
Yu Xiaogang stared at Lu Yuan. A pitch-black Spirit Ring revolved around him, radiating pure light.
A Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring.
A real, unmistakable Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring.
Yu Xiaogang went deathly pale. The theoretical framework he had spent half his life building, the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul he prided himself on, his sole proof that his work had value—
All of it had been crushed by the Big Luck before him and the Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring around Lu Yuan.
Yu Xiaogang recalled Luo Sanpao and turned toward the courtyard gate. He stumbled through a few steps, nearly falling, then abruptly quickened his pace and hurried out, his back hunched.
Tang San rushed after him, mixed feelings stirring as he watched his teacher's retreating figure.
He wanted to comfort Yu Xiaogang, but he had no idea what to say.
He knew that for Yu Xiaogang, the collapse of his theories was crueler, more devastating, than death itself.
Back in the courtyard.
Lu Yuan settled into his recliner again and crossed his legs. He took another pork chop from the Cargo Box and set it on the grill he had just lit.
He glanced toward the courtyard gate and curled his lip.
"Theory? Heh..."
"My Big Luck is theory!"
Within three days, news that Lu Yuan's first Spirit Ring was a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring spread across the southwestern border of the Heaven Dou Empire.
"I heard a monster of a boy showed up in Cangshi Town. His very first Spirit Ring is ten thousand years old!"
"The kid awakened some junky iron-lump Handcart Martial Soul, and he still managed to run over a Ten-Thousand-Year Armored Rhino!"
"I heard even Yu Xiaogang, the theory master from Notting City, went to check for himself. He slunk back to Nuoding Academy afterward, and someone said he nearly threw away his own book of theories!"
The rumors grew wilder and stranger with every retelling.
Some even claimed Lu Yuan was an ancient powerhouse reborn, or that he had inherited a Titled Douluo's legacy.
Others went further, saying he was not human at all, but an ancient Ferocious Beast that had taken human form.
Yet everyone agreed on one thing.
The boy with the Handcart Martial Soul was no ordinary person.
At the Spirit Hunting Guild's southwestern branch, the light was dim.
Inside a meeting room.
Several middle-aged men in close-fitting combat clothes sat around a long table.
A slightly yellowed map of the Star Dou Great Forest's outskirts lay spread across it, covered in red markings.
A burly man with a scar running from the corner of his left eye to his chin sat at the head of the table.
His name was Zhao Lie, a level-sixty-two Soul Emperor and vice president of the Spirit Hunting Guild's southwestern branch. He was one of the most experienced spirit-hunting captains in the entire southwest.
"Has the information been confirmed?" Zhao Lie asked in a low voice, touching his scar.
"It has." The thin man across from him nodded. "We found the battle site on the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest. Seven or eight huge trees had been snapped clean through, and there was a pit several meters wide nearby. The soil held a great deal of Ironclad Rhinoceros blood. Judging by the damage, it was at least a ten-thousand-year Spirit Beast, and it was killed in a single strike."
"A single strike?" Zhao Lie frowned. "Are you certain?"
"Certain." The thin man nodded again. "There were no signs of a second exchange. Just one straight impact trail from start to finish. The Ironclad Rhinoceros never even had a chance to struggle. It was run over and killed outright."
The meeting room fell silent for a moment.
After a long pause, Zhao Lie looked up and swept his gaze over everyone present. "Where is the boy now?"
