Background / History

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao. After his awakening, he and fellow villager Lin Xuan received work-study places at Notting Academy. There, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple and shared Dorm Seven with Lin Xuan and Xiao Wu 1 3 5 6.

At Notting, he divided his time between cultivation, blacksmithing, hidden-weapon forging, and martial-arts practice with Lin Xuan. He also taught Lin Xuan close-combat fundamentals and discussed herbs and toxicology with him. In return, Lin Xuan regularly supplied Clear Mind Talismans that helped Tang San train 15 17 19 69.

After leaving Notting, Tang San traveled with Lin Xuan and Xiao Wu toward Shrek Academy. The three later moved to Heaven Dou City, where Tang San fought alongside Lin Xuan’s group and helped plan its Soul Beast hunts and tournament preparations 20 21 58 78 87 88.

Personality

Tang San is reserved and tactical. He declined Dorm Seven’s newcomer fight because he did not care who held the title, but quickly took command when the group needed a survival plan against Zhao Wuji. His loyalty to Yu Xiaogang made Lin Xuan’s criticism of his teacher difficult for him to accept, even though it prompted him to question Yu’s theories 6 16 27.

He is fiercely protective of his companions. He risked injury trying to save Xiao Wu and Lin Xuan from the Titan Giant Ape, then attacked Dai Mubai after Dai insulted Lin Xuan while the two were missing 54 56.

Blue Silver Grass and battlefield control

• Bind / Entanglement — Sends out vines to restrain targets 13 26.
• Spider Web Restraint — Third soul skill gained from a Nether Spider; described as weaker than the version Lin Xuan had expected from a different third ring 19.
• Uses his control abilities to organize teammates’ attacks and plan hunts around restraint, harassment, and avoiding direct clashes with stronger opponents 27 87 88.

Tang Sect techniques

• Uses Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track for evasive movement, Mysterious Jade Hand in close combat, and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon to redirect an attack 50 56.
• Cultivates with the Mysterious Heaven Skill and practices the Purple Demon Eye 30 50 69.

Forging and hidden weapons

• Forges Tang Sect hidden weapons and continues developing them alongside his Soul Master training 19 62 96.
• Uses a Godly Zhuge Crossbow capable of firing sixteen poisoned bolts in a volley 21 56.

• Tang Hao — Father who watches over him from concealment. Tang San initially does not know his father’s identity as Clear Sky Douluo 18 30.
• Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and early guide to the Soul Master world. Tang San remains devoted to him despite doubts about his theories and is devastated by his death 5 16 56.
• Lin Xuan — Fellow villager, friend, and teammate. They exchange combat instruction, talismans, hidden weapons, and financial help; Tang San later invites him to help found a new Tang Sect 14 19 21 96 101.
• Xiao Wu — Notting classmate and longtime teammate; Tang San attempts to save her when the Titan Giant Ape takes her 6 54.
• Dai Mubai — Former teammate whom Tang San wounds with poisoned bolts for insulting the missing Lin Xuan; he gives Dai an antidote after Flender intervenes 56.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Notting Academy — Studies under Yu Xiaogang, develops his Blue Silver Grass abilities, and builds a working partnership with Lin Xuan and Xiao Wu 5 9 17 19.
• Shrek Academy — Leads tactical decisions during Zhao Wuji’s entrance test. After Yu Xiaogang’s death in the Star Dou Great Forest, he defends Lin Xuan against Dai Mubai’s accusation 27 56.
• Blue Tyrant Academy — Helps organize the tournament team and its Soul Beast hunt, serving as vice-captain under Lin Xuan 78 86 87 88.
• Tang Sect plans — Decides to rebuild the Tang Sect in Heaven Dou City, then invites Lin Xuan to join its founding. He promises Lin Xuan the vice-sect-master position 69 101.
