At night, outside the detached villa where Grandmaster lived.
Three dark figures slowly emerged from the shadows.
Tang San lowered his voice to a whisper. "Tang Chuan, keep watch outside. Tang Tian and I will go in and deal with that useless Yu Xiaogang!"
"Got it!"
Click—
A faint sound followed.
The front door opened.
Tang San worked a wire in the lock a few times, and the mechanism sprang open.
A smug smile tugged at Tang San's lips.
My lockpicking skills are as sharp as ever.
Tang San glanced at Tang Tian and gestured with his eyes toward the bedroom upstairs.
Tang Tian nodded slightly, understanding at once.
Light on their feet, the two crept through the living room and up the stairs toward the bedroom.
Tang Tian gave the bedroom door a gentle push.
It did not open.
He whispered to Tang San beside him, "That useless Yu Xiaogang is so afraid of dying that he even locks his bedroom door when he sleeps."
"Trash!"
Tang San cursed under his breath, then took out his wire and began picking the lock.
What neither of them knew was that Grandmaster had locked his door precisely to guard against the three of them.
Grandmaster was not clever, but even he knew his relationship with Tang San had grown precarious.
Yet he could not let go of the hollow title of God King's teacher.
So he had begun convincing himself that the kindness he had shown Tang San over nine years would make Tang San set aside his hatred.
Still, he had not left himself entirely unguarded.
Before bed, he always made sure to lock the door and summon Luo Sanpao to stand watch.
Tang San might have been an excellent lockpicker.
But the sound of metal touching metal was unavoidable.
