Background / History
Nana was raised by parents she loved deeply. Her father had won the previous Culinary Competition, and she began learning from him at a young age, claiming to have mastered ninety percent of his cooking skills 22. After her mother died from a rare illness, her father took his own life, leaving Nana with a debt of 300,000 Berry 306.
She worked as many as three jobs to repay the debt, becoming pale and severely undernourished. When the loan sharks decided to sell her to traffickers instead, Allen intervened, killed her tormentors, and freed her from the debt hanging over her life 306.
Nana was initially intimidated by Yamato’s beauty and felt she did not belong beside Allen and Yamato. She nevertheless developed feelings for Allen, choosing to conceal them so as not to create conflict between the pair 126. After deciding she wanted to travel with them despite the dangers attached to their bounties, she packed her belongings and her parents’ posthumous photograph before entering Allen’s Kamui Space 22.
Appearance
Nana is a red-haired girl with a petite build and a notably youthful, baby-faced appearance 90 306. Debt and overwork initially left her emaciated and pale, but she gradually regained weight while traveling with Allen and Yamato 128 306.
- Red hair 306
- Petite, delicate frame 128
- Snow-white skin after recovering from her earlier frailty 128
- Often blushes when embarrassed or trying to conceal her feelings 126 189
Personality
Nana is gentle, considerate, and strongly devoted to the people who protect her. She frequently acts as a mediator when Allen and Yamato argue, calming Allen down and redirecting attention to the matter at hand 111 186. She is also compassionate: Laboon’s story moved her deeply, and she readily comforts her companions when they are upset 245 299.
Though shy in personal matters, Nana can be resolute when it counts. She chose to follow Allen and Yamato despite being warned that their lives would place her in danger 22. Her confidence is especially apparent in battle, where she adopts grand poses and dramatic declarations despite her childlike appearance 78 90.
She greatly admires strong figures, particularly Yamato and Marine Hero Garp. Yamato’s Thunder Bagua inspired Nana to pursue swordsmanship, while Garp’s presence at the Culinary Competition excited her immediately 187 269.
