Nana learned cooking from her father, the previous Culinary Competition champion, beginning in early childhood. She later claimed to have mastered ninety percent of his skills 93.

Her family fell into poverty after her mother developed a rare disease. Her father exhausted their savings and sold their furnishings to pay for treatment, but her mother died. Unable to bear the loss, her father jumped into the sea, leaving Nana alone with a debt of 300,000 Berries 91.

Nana worked up to three jobs a day, yet her earnings could not cover the loan interest. Exhaustion left her severely underweight, and she sometimes considered giving up. Her mother’s final wish—that she continue living because life still offered hope—kept her going 91.

When the loan sharks decided to sell her to human traffickers, Nana pleaded for time to earn prize money in the upcoming cooking competition. Their leader instead attempted to assault her. Allen intervened and killed the attackers, restoring her hope and inspiring her determination to repay him 91.

Yamato welcomed Nana as a younger sister, and Nana subsequently chose to accompany them despite Allen’s warning that their adventures could endanger her life. Before leaving, she packed her clothes and a treasured photograph of her parents 92 93.

She often acts as a peacemaker. She answers Yamato tactfully to avoid upsetting her, encourages Allen to reconcile with Yamato after an argument, and uses praise to defuse another disagreement 103 111 113. She is also attentive to others’ feelings, quietly leaving Allen and Robin alone when she recognizes Robin’s jealousy 161.

Her compassion makes her cry over Laboon’s long wait for the Rumbar Pirates. She is also deeply afraid of ghosts and undead creatures, seeking reassurance from her companions when confronted with Brook and Thriller Bark’s zombies 189 219 220.
