"Has anyone in your clan's history awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan?" Naruko asked.
Sasuke nodded. "Yes. Brother Shisui did, and the clan records say some of our predecessors awakened it even earlier."
"They must have come to see this stone tablet too, right?" Naruko pressed.
"Probably... yes." Sasuke looked at the prominently placed tablet. "It's right here. No clan member allowed inside could have missed it."
"Then," Naruko said with a cold smile, "I'm guessing they never made the rest of the inscription public. Maybe they wouldn't even discuss it with one another. Am I right?"
"Otherwise, with the ability and standing of someone who possessed the Mangekyō Sharingan, they would have made a rubbing of it long ago, or at least left a clear record."
"But in fact, all that's been passed down about the rest of the inscription is that you need the Mangekyō to read it. As for what it actually says, everyone has a different theory, and no one knows for sure."
Sasuke's frown deepened. He had no memory of this tablet's secret, and the Canopy Screen in that other timeline had never mentioned it.
"That doesn't necessarily mean it's a conspiracy, does it?" Sasuke tried to argue, though he no longer sounded so sure.
"Maybe the Uchiha ancestors just wanted their descendants to keep their feet on the ground instead of reaching too far, so they set a threshold..."
"You idiot, Sasuke!" Naruko cut him off without mercy. She planted her hands on her hips, wearing an expression that said his brain was beyond saving.
"This is obviously a textbook scam, built up one step at a time! First, you give them a little information that sounds reasonable and win their trust."
"Then you set a goal that looks difficult but achievable: awaken the Sharingan, then
