Background / History

Hyuga Xiu created the screen using the Sky Screen System. An ordinary Hyuga branch-family Chunin with knowledge of the world's future, he designed its supposedly prophetic broadcasts to change events through public belief. If enough people believed what they saw, he hoped to turn fiction into reality 1. His invented characters were part of that plan; after the broadcasts raised his Belief Points, he began arranging for them to appear in the world 80.

The screen's first broadcast, “Konoha's Shadows: The Truth Behind the Nine-Tails Incident,” alarmed the great villages and prompted Konoha to investigate its origin. Hiruzen later ordered officials to discredit its unverified claims, even while privately suspecting that some might be true 1 2.

Appearance

The Canopy Screen stretches across the sky and is visible throughout the Shinobi World 1.

• It has no apparent physical form: a reconnaissance hawk passes straight through it 1.
• A Byakugan user cannot see through it or detect chakra flowing within it 1.
• Light ripples across its surface before forming large glowing titles or clear moving images 1 99.

Abilities & Functions

Broadcasts

• Displays named stories, captions identifying people, and labels establishing when scenes take place 1 13 99.
• Can withhold information: it mutes Minato's instructions to Gamatatsu during the Nine-Tails Incident broadcast 24.
• Pauses between stories; on some occasions, it announces that the next video will play in one month 31 497.

Soul Chatroom

• Opens a Soul Chatroom after the Nine-Tails Incident story, allowing shinobi leaders to discuss what they have seen 31.
• A later update adds chat access for certain Pure Land personnel, removes the chat limit, and lets those personnel view replays beginning with Deidara's broadcast 497.
