Background / History

At seventeen, Xingfeng accompanied his father, Zhang Qingping, toward the Cloud Offering Sect’s recruitment gathering despite doubting that he possessed Spiritual Wisdom. They instead met Li Moqing, whose display of flight convinced them to visit his Heavenly Mist Sect. Xingfeng accepted Li as his master and performed the formal apprenticeship rites 2 3.

When the sect’s Trial Stele initially showed no aptitude, Xingfeng feared he would remain mortal. Trusting Li’s explanation of the Spirit-Awakening Tree and Dao-Enlightenment Stone, he meditated through the night and awakened spiritual awareness. A second test showed one-star aptitude, after which Li taught him the Divine Breath Pure Heart Scripture 4 5.

Xingfeng later became the eldest senior brother to Li’s newer disciples. He welcomed Dongfang Muxue and Lü Liu, guided Lü Liu toward the Dao-Enlightenment Stone, and agreed to look after the newly rescued Chen Guyu 8 9 19.

Appearance

At seventeen, Xingfeng is described as tall and straight, with swordlike brows and bright eyes 2.

• Wears golden finery when first introduced; witnesses later describe him as gold-robed in the Qigu Secret Realm 2 43.
• Carries the jet-black spirit sword Ink Edge after selecting it from the sect’s Armory 19.

Personality

Xingfeng is eager to cultivate but initially insecure about his aptitude and the gap between himself and Muxue. He responds to her faster progress by resolving to work harder, while remaining openly impressed by her achievements 4 8 11 21.

He is attentive to his companions and fiercely protective of them and his family. He returns immediately when the Zhang Household is attacked, but his response also shows a ruthless side: after learning that two fleeing cultivators belong to the attacking Cangri Sect, he kills them despite their pleas for mercy 25 26. In the secret realm, he and Chen Guyu repeatedly protect Muxue when she is weakened or threatened 41 42 43.

Sword Source Aspect

Xingfeng awakens a sword Source Aspect upon reaching the third layer of Qi Refinement. When he channels Source Power, countless swords materialize around him 16.

• His aspect prompts Li Moqing to give him the Heaven-Tier Upper Grade technique Sword’s Initial Ultimate Intent 16.
• With Ink Edge, he uses Question the Heart with the Sword to release a sword force spanning fifty li 40.
• He uses Sword Severs Spring and Autumn against Wang Family cultivators in the Qigu Secret Realm 41 42.

Cultivation and mobility

• Practices the Heavenly Mist Sect’s Divine Breath Pure Heart Scripture, which enabled him to begin absorbing Source Qi after a single reading 5.
• Flies on Ink Edge when ordered to return to the Zhang Household 25.
• Initially judges the Time Tower’s increased drain on lifespan, soul, and mental energy too costly for his four-star Spiritual Wisdom, but enters after Li Moqing does 21.

• Dongfang Muxue — junior sister and frequent combat partner. Xingfeng admires her progress and helps defend her when enemies target or exhaust her 8 21 41 42.

Story Role / Major Arcs

• Defense of the Zhang Household: After his father’s warning, Xingfeng returns to Clearwind Town with Muxue and Guyu. His sword strike halts the Yang Household attackers, and he kills the two Cangri Sect cultivators backing them 25 26.
• Qigu Secret Realm: Sent to gather treasures with Muxue and Guyu, Xingfeng fights off attackers, helps rescue Azure Feather Sect disciples, and battles Moon-Reflecting Sect and Wang Family forces 28 39 40 41 42.
• Secret-realm treasure: A mysterious black object strikes Ink Edge, and Xingfeng catches it. He later gives it and the Pill Spirit Wondrous Life Art to Li Moqing; the object is identified as a Dragon Abyss Wonder Bone 44 45.
• Aid to the Dongfang Family: When Muxue learns her family is under attack, Xingfeng volunteers to accompany her as part of the Heavenly Mist Sect’s rescue party 47.
