Lin Mo nodded.
"Yeah."
Maeve stared at the name, her expression growing complicated.
"Vought's new CEO?"
"Edgar?"
"CEO? More or less."
Hearing that, Lin Mo tilted his head. He remembered Edgar having less power before. Unless...
Forget it. It probably had something to do with him. Who knew old Fried Chicken Uncle was so ambitious?
Maeve, though, looked uneasy.
"Me?"
She pointed at herself.
"Call him?"
Lin Mo took it as a given.
"Who else?"
Maeve's mouth twitched. She stumbled over her words.
"No, I mean..."
"I'm just a student."
"I might count as a Superhero now." She thought of what she and Lin Mo had done recently.
"But he's at the very top of Vought. You want me to contact him directly?"
Lin Mo looked at her, puzzled. She would choose to join Vought as a Superhero eventually, so she was bound to meet Edgar. Besides, she was someone he had personally picked. How else was Edgar supposed to get to know her?
"Is that a problem?"
Maeve felt a headache coming on.
How could it not be? He practically runs Vought International.
He wasn't a professor on campus or some ordinary executive. A single word from him could decide the fates of countless Superheroes.
And now she was holding the phone.
Was she supposed to just call him out of the blue?
Maeve held the phone helplessly in one hand and hugged Marie tighter with the other. She felt as though far too much had happened today.
"Call him."
Lin Mo said, "Tell him what happened here and ask him to come handle it."
Maeve took a deep breath. Fine. If Lin Mo said so, what else could she do?
She dialed.
The call connected quickly.
A steady voice came from the other end.
"Lin Mo?"
"How have
