Background / History

Early in Lin Mo’s childhood, Edgar presses Vogelbaum to produce superhumans Vought can replicate and control, rather than rely on Lin Mo as an unexplained success 4. As the executive responsible for Joanna’s project, he studies her growing dependence on Lin Mo and approves longer periods of contact between them. He regards their bond as a way to make Joanna stable enough for a public career 18 19.

When Vought plans to introduce Joanna as Homelander, Edgar argues that Lin Mo should join The Super Seven alongside her. He challenges board members who cite Lin Mo’s Asian identity as an obstacle, while also warning that separating the pair could put Vought at risk 44 45. He then approaches Lin Mo privately with an offer of status, resources, and freedom outside the research facility 45 50.

The negotiation collapses when Edgar insists Vought will not let its assets simply leave. Lin Mo reveals that his test results concealed his true strength, spares Edgar, and destroys the Bunker 50 51 52. Edgar subsequently agrees to Lin Mo’s terms: no further experiments without consent, independent identities and property, and freedom to refuse Vought’s work. He proposes Godolkin University as a route toward The Super Seven and arranges their enrollment documents 53 55.

Edgar continues to manage their prospective careers through publicity and university rankings 59 60. After Thomas Godolkin’s underground laboratory is uncovered, he takes charge of the aftermath, receives the infant Marie, and prepares a public account that conceals Vought’s connection to the experiments 113 116 117. Later, when Lin Mo seeks Original Compound V, Edgar identifies Clara Leisinger as a possible source 130 131.

Appearance

Edgar is a Black man who dresses in a neatly tailored dark suit and is usually described as composed and difficult to read 18 50.

Personality

Edgar evaluates people through their usefulness to Vought and prefers candid, transactional negotiations to appeals to heroism. He is willing to change methods quickly: once Lin Mo proves he cannot be controlled by force, Edgar shifts from coercion to cooperation 50 53 60.

His calm manner does not prevent him from confronting the board’s racial prejudice. He supports Lin Mo’s inclusion in The Super Seven with ability data, market arguments, and the practical danger of separating him from Joanna 44 45.
