She glanced at Marie, then at Lin Mo.
"So."
"It's over?"
Lin Mo nodded.
"More or less."
Satisfied, Joanna quietly edged closer to Lin Mo.
"Then does that mean..."
Lin Mo saw her expression and immediately grew wary. He never knew what this girl was plotting.
"What do you want now?"
Joanna blinked.
"Nothing."
"I just think..."
"I did really well today."
Lin Mo fell silent for a moment. He rubbed his temples. Sure enough, here it came.
He took a deep breath. He couldn't let her bring up anything he would have to put a stop to.
"What do you want?"
Joanna smiled.
"You know."
Lin Mo looked at her, then waved a hand in helpless surrender. She had beaten him.
Beside them, Maeve held Marie and silently turned away. Maybe Thomas shouldn't have died so quickly. He could have talked a little longer.
At least then she wouldn't have had to keep watching these two flirt.
"Hello... is... anyone there?"
Just then, a voice came from the landline Lin Mo had set on the table.
All three looked over. Maeve and Joanna exchanged glances. Hadn't Thomas called from that phone? How was someone still speaking through it?
Was Thomas not quite dead?
Maeve glanced uncertainly at Lin Mo, then ventured a question.
"Is Thomas still alive?"
Lin Mo thought for a moment and immediately understood what had happened.
He picked up the phone from the table, put it to his ear, and spoke calmly.
"Doug?"
A tearful voice came from the other end. "I... I'm Doug. I... I..."
He sounded nothing like he had before, his emotions in turmoil.
Lin Mo had no interest in dragging out the conversation. Doug had been unlucky enough to serve as Thomas's puppet for years. His soul had remained in his body,
