Not Intimidating at All

"You two go ahead."

Maeve spoke up.

"I'll take a car."

"There's a restaurant next to Vought headquarters called the Bluebird Restaurant."

"I'll meet you there."

Lin Mo nodded.

"Okay."

Maeve stepped aside and waited patiently for a taxi. Ride-hailing apps hadn't caught on yet, so she had to rely on the old-fashioned method.

Joanna, meanwhile, looked triumphant. She pulled Lin Mo a few steps away and waited until she was sure Maeve couldn't hear them before whispering, "See?"

"She didn't actually need to come with us."

Lin Mo gave her a helpless look.

"What kind of logic is that?"

"She left, didn't she?"

Joanna sounded utterly convinced.

"That means I won."

Lin Mo stared at her, baffled. That counted as winning? But he couldn't be bothered to argue.

Joanna was clearly in a good mood. She spread her arms and hugged Lin Mo, making her intentions obvious.

"Come on. We can get something to eat first."

"Maeve can take her time getting here."

Lin Mo looked at her, amusement in his eyes. He knew exactly what she was thinking, but he made a point of asking anyway.

"Weren't we going to find Edgar?"

"Food first."

Joanna's answer was immediate.

"You barely ate this morning."

"Besides, before we go to Vought headquarters, I want to see if there's anything good to eat around there."

Lin Mo almost asked what eating had to do with going to Vought headquarters. But one look at Joanna told him she wasn't about to listen to reason, so he let it go.

The next second, they shot into the air and vanished, leaving Maeve alone nearby. She watched the sky in silence for a moment, then glanced around. Hardly any cars were passing. Who knew how long she'd have to wait for a taxi?
