Lingmeng smiled and waved at the captain. "Bye!"
Before the captain could grasp what was happening, blue lightning erupted across her abdomen. The powerful shock dealt her a devastating blow.
"Damn it... Why do you... have so many... abilities?"
The captain barely managed to get the words out before she passed out.
Lingmeng merely smiled. "Because I'm cheating!"
Then she gently lowered the captain to the ground.
"Captain!"
The girls on the other side cried out when they saw their captain collapse.
"Don't worry! I made sure to keep the voltage within a safe range. She won't die. She'll recover after a few days of sleep at most."
Lingmeng stretched and explained with a relaxed smile.
The Angel Who Commands the Elements (Part Two)
"Damn you! You monster! How dare you do that to our captain!"
Seeing their captain hurt, the AST members looked stricken and furious.
"Why are you shouting so loud? Can't we talk normally? Are you treating everything I say like air? Are you deaf? I just told you your captain's fine! She only needs to lie down for a few days. Instead of wasting time yelling at me, take her to a hospital to rest!"
Lingmeng was getting worked up. She had wanted to talk things out peacefully from the start, and even when they fought, she had held back so she wouldn't hurt them. Yet instead of appreciating it, they blamed her. Who wouldn't get angry?
Ugh. Being a good person is hard!
Lingmeng composed herself and sighed inwardly.
"Take this, monster! We'll avenge our captain!"
By the time Lingmeng snapped back to attention, the AST members were flying at her from every direction, Light Swords raised.
"A numbers advantage? That's a fairly smart choice under the circumstances." Lingmeng's lips curved upward. "But fancy tricks like that won't work on me!"
The ground beneath the AST members suddenly split open. Enormous green vines burst out and bound them in an instant.
"What is this? Let me go!"
The AST members tried to tear the vines off by force, but after struggling for a while, they discovered they couldn't break them.
Ohoho, now that's a sight for sore eyes! \(☆o☆)/
As Lingmeng admired the bound girls before her, a lecherous grin slipped onto her face.
Her body might be female now, but deep down she was still a man! What man wouldn't get at least a little excited at the sight of pretty girls all tied up?
"Ahem. Ladies, you might as well stop resisting. These aren't ordinary vines. I made them with my powers, and you aren't strong enough to break free."
Lingmeng cleared her throat and resumed a normal expression. Seeing the AST members still struggling, she kindly offered them a warning.
"Oh, right. I should take care of your equipment too. Without it, you're pretty much ordinary girls, aren't you?"
Lingmeng walked up to them and pointed Elemental Spirit at them. Blue Lightning appeared again and surged into the AST members' mechanical suits.
Electricity crackled, and every AST member's equipment began smoking at once.
The suits looked unchanged from the outside, but Lingmeng had wrecked their inner workings. They were nothing but scrap metal now.
"There. None of you can fight anymore, so there's no need to keep this going, right?"
Lingmeng looked at the AST members and spoke as casually as ever.
"Cut the crap! If you're going to kill us, get it over with! Spare us your fake concern. Just looking at you makes me sick!"
The AST members glared at Lingmeng. As far as they were concerned, she had only spared them at every turn because she enjoyed toying with them. If looks could kill, Lingmeng would have died a hundred times over.
What they didn't know was that Lingmeng had spared them because she used to be human and couldn't bring herself to kill anyone. She had only destroyed their equipment so they would stop harassing her.
"I really don't understand why you're so upset. Could you tell me why you're trying to kill me?"
"Because you're a monster!"
"...All right. Asking nicely clearly won't work." Lingmeng lifted the chin of the nearest girl and looked into her eyes. "Then... excuse me!"
A vast surge of Spirit Power poured into the girl's mind, allowing Lingmeng to read her memories. It was one of Lingmeng's abilities.
Lingmeng's Angel, Elemental Spirit, was nearly all-powerful. It could command Metal, Wood, water, fire, earth, light, darkness, wind, Lightning, space, time, and the mind.
That was why Lingmeng had been able to use so many different powers in the fight.
She had used her mental powers to enter the girl's subconscious and learn why they were hunting her.
"Damn you! What did you do to Misako, monster? Let her go!"
The other members grew even more agitated when they saw Lingmeng apparently do something to Misako.
"Relax. I didn't do anything to her."
Lingmeng withdrew her hand and sorted through the information she had obtained.
In short, I'm a being called a Spirit. Whenever I come from a place called the Neighboring World into the human world, I cause a huge explosion called a Spacequake. After a while, I return to the Neighboring World, and the cycle repeats. These girls were sent by an organization called AST to eliminate me.
Once she had pieced it all together, Lingmeng raised her head to the sky and said with feeling:
"If that's really how it works, then I... might be the villain?"
I'm Sorry, but It Wasn't My Fault!
"What have you been muttering to yourself about this whole time, Spirit?"
The AST members had seen Lingmeng suddenly look up and sigh, so they asked her what was going on.
"Nothing. I was just wondering how you could be so weak. I barely did anything, and you all went down. Is this really all AST members can do? If so, the world's doomed!"
Lingmeng turned back to them with a smile.
"How dare you mock us! Let us go and fight us properly if you've got the guts!"
Lingmeng had clearly struck a nerve. If those damned vines weren't holding them down, the AST members would have rushed over and punched her.
"Bleh, no way!" Lingmeng made an Oni face. "Besides, what could you do even if I let you go? I broke all your equipment. You're no different from ordinary girls now."
"..."
The AST members fell silent. She was right. Even if their equipment were still working, they wouldn't stand a chance against Lingmeng.
They didn't quite understand why they dared to talk to a Spirit like this after being captured. Under normal circumstances, they would probably already be corpses.
"Look, I do understand what you've been through. If the Spacequakes we Spirits caused hadn't killed your families, you wouldn't have had to spend your childhoods handling weapons every day."
Lingmeng scratched her cheek, looking apologetic. "Um... I know saying this won't make up for anything, but... I'm truly sorry!"
She bent at the waist and bowed to the AST members in apology.
"..."
Lingmeng's gesture left the AST members dumbfounded. They had never imagined they would receive an apology from a Spirit.
"Ahem. That said, there's something I need to point out." Lingmeng cleared her throat, apparently not finished.
"Yes, your families died in Spacequakes, but what the hell does that have to do with me? Today was the first Spacequake I've ever caused! In other words, you obviously have no grudge against me personally, right? If you want revenge, go after someone else! You can't attack me for no reason just because I'm a Spirit!"
Lingmeng laid out exactly what was on her mind.
"..."
"All right, enough of this. I'm off! You can wait here for reinforcements to rescue you!" Lingmeng waved to the AST members and turned to leave. "See ya!"
The AST members could only watch in speechless silence as Lingmeng walked away.
"Ohoho, where should I go have some fun now? I finally made it to Japan. It'd be such a waste not to experience the culture!"
Lingmeng clapped her hands, having apparently settled on her next destination. "Ha! As a proper otaku, I have to visit the otaku holy land of Akihabara while I'm in Japan! No time to waste. Let's go!"
But just as Lingmeng was about to use Elemental Spirit to travel straight to Akihabara, she suddenly felt an irresistible force trying to pull her out of this world.
"What the—what's happening?"
Those were Lingmeng's last words before the force took her away. When she came to her senses, she could feel neither gravity nor anything through her five senses. The sense that she had no control over her body made her deeply uncomfortable.
Is this the Neighboring World? It doesn't feel great. Well, I should be able to return to the human world before long, right? I'll just wait.
Muttering to herself inwardly, Lingmeng drifted off to sleep...
Danger Level B+
Two weeks had passed since Lingmeng first appeared in the human world. Meanwhile, at DEM headquarters in Britain, a handsome white-haired man who looked to be around thirty lounged on a sofa with one leg crossed over the other.
His name was Isaac Ray Peram Westcott. As one of the creators of the Realizer and DEM's executive director, he was thoroughly bored.
"Yawn... Life's been rather dull lately. Ellen, do you have any ideas for passing the time?"
Isaac yawned and turned to the woman in a business uniform standing behind him.
"I think the best solution is to work. Lounging around like this all day is unbecoming of an executive director."
The woman answered coldly, plainly dissatisfied with Isaac's behavior.
She had long golden hair that reached her waist, violet eyes, and a tall, shapely figure. She was beautiful by any standard.
Her name was Ellen Mira Mathers. She was Isaac's secretary and the strongest Wizard in the world.
"Tsk, you're so rigid. Let the senior staff handle the work. I have no intention of spending all day staring at reports and documents. I'm only interested in things that amuse me."
Isaac waved a hand and dismissed Ellen's suggestion.
"Then forget I said anything."
Ellen gave a perfunctory reply and fell silent.
"Ellen, would you make me a cup of coffee?"
"Of course. One moment, please."
Ellen nodded and left. When she returned a short while later, she held a steaming cup of coffee.
"Here you are."
"Mm, thanks."
Isaac accepted the coffee with a smile and savored it.
"That's Ellen for you! You're even the best in the world at making coffee!"
Isaac set down his cup, looking delighted.
"Thank you for the compliment."
Ellen's response to his praise was purely professional.
"By the way, a new Spirit appeared recently. She seems rather powerful. Interested?"
Apparently having thought of a topic, Isaac put the question to Ellen.
"Oh? What kind of Spirit managed to catch your attention, Isaac?"
Ellen's expression softened slightly. The new Spirit had evidently piqued her interest.
"Here. This is her file. Take a look."
Isaac produced a folder from somewhere.
Ellen took the folder, drew out the documents, and read them carefully—
Identification code: "Element Make." First appeared in ** City, Japan. Her Angel possesses immense power to control several elements. She primarily uses elemental attacks in combat. Danger level: B+
"...Isaac, didn't you say this one was powerful?"
"She is. An Angel with that many abilities would be quite troublesome to face, wouldn't she?"
