Aaron had Elminster to thank for his knowledge. The Great Sage's illustrated guide described the Githyanki Silver Sword in detail, while the books in Suzail's library made the legends surrounding this artifact sound nothing short of miraculous.
As mentioned earlier, the Gith had once been enslaved by the Space Mind Flayer empire. Time and again, this race had risen in rebellion, only to be ruthlessly crushed by those supreme beings, the Mind Flayers-until the appearance of a legendary leader named Gith.
And with Gith came the artifact known as the Githyanki Silver Sword.
It was no exaggeration to say that the appearance of this artifact had shattered the entire Space Mind Flayer empire.
Mind Flayers were hermaphroditic beings of supreme intelligence. They resembled humanoids with octopus heads, possessed immensely powerful psionics, and fed on the brains of other intelligent beings. At its height, the Space Mind Flayer empire had spanned countless crystal spheres, controlled innumerable colonies, and repeatedly confronted the Elven Empire's space navy head-on.
At the height of their empire, the Space Mind Flayers had enslaved hundreds of races. Their civilization illuminated the cosmos, their Nautiloids traveled ceaselessly between crystal spheres to hunt slaves and raise their young, and their Elder Brains reached across dimensions to spread their faith throughout the universe.
Yet this space empire, with its countless legendary spellcasters, enormous fleets, and glorious civilization, had ultimately fallen before the Githyanki Silver Sword. That alone demonstrated this supreme artifact's dominion over the Astral Plane and its lethality against Mind Flayers.
