The explosions in the sewers drew the paladins' attention.

Baldur's Gate's sewers had always been a hotbed of filth and gang activity. There were even rumors of an immense fortune hidden beneath the city, a treasure left behind by Balduran.

The Drow of Lolth, the Spider Queen, had also joined the unrest in Baldur's Gate. They had planted an insider among the group beforehand.
