Ch. 301Sky Island: Setting sail for home
Key events
- Enel uses a huge thundercloud to strike everyone driven mad by the tainted liquid on Angel Island. His lightning avoids the unaffected residents, and the victims recover soon after. At Conis’s urging, he also goes to God’s Island to help, returning with a large haul of gold and the Poneglyph.
- Enel brings former subordinates Satori, Satori’s brothers, and Nirvana to join Lin Mo’s crew. Lin Mo refuses, and Enel eventually sends them away—after punishing them with lightning when they suggest he leave the crew.
- Lin Mo and his companions remain on Angel Island for nearly three months. Enel enjoys being treated as a hero, while the conflict between the Shandia and the Temple continues unresolved.
- As the crew prepares to leave, Conis asks to join them. Lin Mo refuses, saying constant travel would not suit her, but gives her a one-use device that can locate him if she is in danger.
- The crew departs the next day. Lin Mo directs them toward Green Island, teasing speculation about whether their route may take them to the North Blue again. Enel jokes that Conis is Lin Mo’s sweetheart; Lin Mo knocks him off the Lookout.
Character developments and interactions
- Enel helps the islanders despite claiming to act only because he feels like it. He is pleased by their gratitude, but his arrogance and teasing remain unchanged. His attempt to recruit old followers fails when Lin Mo refuses.
- Lin Mo stays emotionally reserved but shows care for Conis by offering a way to call for help. He nevertheless holds firm to his rule against bringing her aboard.
- Conis grows close to Lin Mo and openly asks to travel with him. Though disappointed by his refusal, she treasures the contact device and wears it around her neck.
- Kaku supports Lin Mo’s decision and explains that the crew’s next companion is supposedly still a year away, based on a past divination. He also built the one-use tracking device.
- Pagaya helps repair Conis’s roof, while Little White and Kaku spend the day together before rejoining the group.
Significant themes
- Duty and compassion: Enel’s help is framed as self-indulgence, yet it saves many lives; Conis encourages him to see the effort through.
- Belonging and boundaries: Conis wants to leave home with Lin Mo, but he believes friendship does not mean taking her into a life unsuited to her.
- Affection expressed indirectly: Lin Mo says little, but his practical gift shows concern; Conis’s response reveals how much his friendship matters to her.
- Unresolved conflict: The crew helps Angel Island’s residents but deliberately avoids taking sides in the ongoing Shandia–Temple struggle.
