Ch. 101New Five Elders! Erasing God Valley from history
Plot points and events
- God Valley is left devastated after the battle: the island is reduced to a wasteland, most Marines and pirates are dead, and nearly all the Celestial Dragons and enslaved people have perished.
- Kong, Sengoku, Garp, and Zephyr are the only ones still standing; many other Marines, including Dragon, Sakazuki, Kuzan, and Borsalino, are alive but unconscious.
- Five Holy Knights arrive and announce that the newly established Five Elders have ordered God Valley sunk and the battle erased from history, including Rocks’s existence.
- Garp refuses to abandon the surviving Marines. The Holy Knights grant the group one day before the island must be destroyed.
- Byrnndi World, Chinjao, and the Red Count leave, reflecting on the battle and Rocks’s sacrifice.
- On a floating island, the surviving Rocks Pirates mourn the deaths of Rocks and Rono. The crew effectively dissolves: the Golden Lion proposes forming his own crew, but the others mock and beat him.
- Kaido decides to form his own crew and claims he will carry on Rono’s will by destroying the world. He departs in dragon form.
Character developments and interactions
- Garp openly grieves the Marines’ losses and defies the Holy Knights to protect the unconscious survivors, including his son, Dragon.
- Kong, Sengoku, and Zephyr share Garp’s anger but recognize they cannot oppose the order without consequences.
- The Holy Knights assert the World Government’s authority and make clear that erasing the battle—and Rocks—from public history is part of the plan.
- The Rocks Pirates revert to their fractious behavior without Rocks and Rono to restrain them. The Golden Lion’s attempt to lead is rejected, while Kaido finds a new purpose in Rono’s memory.
Significant themes
- Power and political control: The World Government intends to destroy evidence as well as the island, using history itself as a tool of authority.
- The cost of war: The battle leaves enormous casualties, including Marines who died protecting the Celestial Dragons.
- Legacy and grief: The surviving pirates respond to their leaders’ deaths in different ways; Kaido turns mourning into a destructive mission.
- Loyalty versus ambition: Garp prioritizes the lives of his comrades, while the former crew members move toward independent, conflicting futures.
