Atlas studied the slightly scrawny young man before her. With his sharp face and shifty eyes, he looked like those descriptions had been made for him. Six distinctive whiskers grew above his lip, and in his standard Marine uniform, he looked like an eager new recruit.

Atlas marveled inwardly.

Nezumi was only twenty-two, about the same age as Atlas. He was nothing like the greedy Marine Colonel he would become, a man who colluded with pirates. For now, he was just an eager young man inspired by justice.

"Well done!"

Atlas said nothing more. She gave Nezumi a firm pat on the shoulder and left.

"Lieutenant Colonel, the Vice Admiral praised me!"

Nezumi looked dizzy, his face flushed. A few simple words of praise from Atlas had thrilled him so much that his legs were nearly giving out.

"Lieutenant Colonel Green, sorry for the trouble, but could you give me a hand? I don't think I can walk..."

Speechless, Green reached out with a strong arm and hauled the overexcited Nezumi up. Still, a hint of approval showed in his eyes.

No one knew that, at that moment, Nezumi made a decision he had never considered before.

I'll train hard. One day, I'll go to Marine Headquarters and follow in Ms. Atlas's footsteps!

After bidding farewell to the Marines of the 16th Branch,

Atlas and her companions finally reached the first destination on their route.

P.S. Arlong's Crew arrived in the East Blue in 1512. Nezumi probably didn't start working with Arlong right away, so his promotion to Colonel should still be a long way off. It seems reasonable for him to be a recruit now. Morgan went from recruit to Colonel in just three years, after all.
