In the world of pirates, starting with Roger's execution

Churning waves left a long, slender white trail across the sea. Atlas was running over the water, holding Ace and Sabo by their collars, one in each hand, while Luffy clung desperately to the clothes on her shoulders.

She had left the ship behind on a whim, wanting to show the three boys this ugly world and let them see just how much harm pirates had done to it.

"Do you still want to be pirates now? Slaughter innocent people? Pillage and burn?"

Atlas ignored Ace's embarrassment. This was the best time to drive the lesson home. Once the shock wore off, he might stop listening.

"I... the kind of pirate I want to be is different! Freedom and adventure are why I want to become a pirate!"

Ace craned his neck and shouted, unwilling to concede.

"Then where will you get your food, clothes, transportation, and living expenses? Of course, you could trade the treasure you find on your adventures."

Ace was about to nod, but Atlas's expression suddenly turned serious.

"Once you raise a pirate flag and your name spreads across the seas, countless people will follow your example. They might abandon their wives and children, just like your father, Roger. Your influence simply won't be as great as his!"

"Stop bringing up Roger! He's not my father!" Ace's face suddenly twisted. "I carry a sinful bloodline, the bloodline of the Pirate King that should never have existed! My birth killed my mother, but that bastard Roger was just as responsible for her death!"

Ace's sudden outburst stunned Sabo and Luffy. Ace had always bristled at Roger's name, and Sabo never dared bring him up. It was like a thorn lodged in Ace's heart.
