Lafitte held his cane behind his back and nodded with gentlemanly poise. "Quite right. We should be gentler with beautiful women."

"Of course, if a woman isn't good-looking, treat her like a man and beat her up."

Burgess swung his fist and roared with laughter. "If we're fighting, let's get on with it. All this dawdling makes you sound like a bunch of old women."

With that, he strode forward, ready to fight the officers.

Luo rested Kikoku on his shoulder and followed, his voice cold. "Take a page from the captain's book. Be fast, precise, and ruthless. End this pointless fight."

Hawkins put away his cards, wearing the same deathly expression as ever. "Even a lion uses all its strength to hunt a rabbit. Let's finish them quickly."
