"This is Merry. He's an elder I respect very much, hehe."
Merry nodded to Makino and said warmly, "Hello. It's a pleasure to meet you."
Makino smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Merry."
"By the way, pirates are coming. You need to be careful. Please don't wander off."
Kaya nodded twice and smiled. "Makino, we heard pirates were coming, so we came out to see what was happening."
"To tell you the truth, I've never seen a pirate in my life."
At the mention of pirates, Makino shook her head and gave a wry smile. "There's a kid in our village about your age who talks about going to sea every day."
"He keeps saying his dream is to become the Pirate King. No matter how anyone tries to talk him out of it, he insists on going off to have adventures."
"Well, enough about him. I was going to take a look from the window."
Makino smiled gently. "What about you, Kaya?"
Kaya nodded, her eyes sparkling and her smile sweet. "Of course! That's where I was going to look too."
"Merry, let's take a look over there and then go back to the room. Is that all right?"
Merry glanced at the window. It was at the end of the corridor, only a few dozen meters away.
"All right. But once we've had a look, we're going back to the room. We can't stay out here."
Kaya nodded firmly and said with a playful pout, "I know!"
Then she turned to Makino with a grin. "Let's go, Makino."
The three of them headed toward the window, chatting as they walked.
"Makino, what do you do?"
Holding her book, Kaya looked at Makino with open curiosity. "You seem so gentle and kind. I really like you."
