"Bribe a monster like that? Are you kidding me?" Albert felt as though his intelligence had been insulted. "How could someone like him be short on money? Couldn't he just go rob someone?"
"Because the person who taught them is a good man who doesn't abuse his power," Lex Luthor said. "Even though they have the power to do whatever they please, that restraint keeps them from becoming people who use their strength to run wild."
"Holy crap, are you talking about Roland?" Jason and Kara walked into the surveillance room after dealing with the Final Experiment. "Since when did our Roland family produce a saint?"
"Are you sure you don't mean Superman?" Kara barely had the energy to point out how ridiculous that was.
"That despicable alien only refrains from abusing his power to deceive the public, build himself a reputation, and conceal his future evil plans." Lex Luthor slandered Superman without missing a beat.
"...Seriously? Those double standards?" Jason was speechless.
"Those aren't double standards. That's knowing whom to love and whom to hate," Lex Luthor said as though it were obvious. "And am I wrong? Father Roland really is more virtuous than Superman."
"Good grief, that's...even if you dare say it, Roland wouldn't dare listen." Jason felt his scalp prickle.
Kara shook her head. "I wouldn't be so sure. Roland might happily agree and think Lex Luthor was right."
"True enough." Jason nodded. "All right, our pleasant little reunion is over. Time to deal with this guy who was planning to destroy the world."
"I suggest you execute him for human experimentation. With his level of ability, the idea of him destroying the world is just laughable," Lex Luthor suggested. A mere pharmaceutical businessman conducting biological experiments—who did he think he was, trying to destroy the world?
