"I know. It's impossible to maintain order in this city while sticking to the law, but I stand by my principles." Gordon's phone rang again. He shook his head helplessly and answered it. "Hello..."
"Commissioner Gordon, hello." The voice on the other end was unfamiliar. There was a lot of background noise, as though the caller were at a banquet.
"Who is this?" Gordon asked, puzzled.
"This is Carmine Falcone."
"The Roman. Why are you calling me?" Hearing who it was sobered Gordon up instantly.
"I simply wanted to make a friend. Would Commissioner Gordon be willing to accept the Falcone family's friendship?" Falcone's voice was gentle, without a trace of menace.

"I'm sorry you've made the wrong choice. Still, I'm willing to give you another chance..."
Before Falcone could finish, Gordon hung up.
