Mother's Day

From the delirious mutterings of the children who were hallucinating after food poisoning, Bruce quickly realized something was wrong. Without giving anything away, he offered to donate to Mrs. Gunn's Boarding School for Troubled Children.

But Mrs. Gunn refused. She said she was a widow whose late husband had left her a considerable fortune, and she had no need for donations.

That night, Batman broke into Mrs. Gunn's Boarding School for Troubled Children and discovered what was going on.

Mrs. Gunn was soon sent to prison.

"Grand theft, multiple counts of theft, inciting minors to commit crimes, tax evasion, trafficking in stolen goods... Add it all up." Harvey clapped his hands. "Mrs. Gunn will be spending her retirement in prison."

"What about the children now that she's locked up? Are they going to prison too?" Roland poured Harvey a glass of champagne.

"They're still minors, but the sheer value of what they stole will mean a heavier sentence." Harvey clinked glasses with Roland and took a sip. "The court will consider their ages, the circumstances of their crimes, and whether they show remorse when reducing their sentences... But there's no way they'll avoid prison altogether."

"That's a shame," Roland said. "Those kids had rotten luck, getting adopted by someone like her."

"Did they? I'd say they were lucky. They only ended up stealing instead of dying in a Mob shootout." Harvey shrugged. "And hardly any of them got hooked on drugs. They've still got a future."

"Fair enough." Roland nodded. "That's Gotham for you."

"Which is why what you're doing matters, Roland," Harvey said. "You're giving those kids food to eat, a place to sleep, teachers to educate them..."

"Of course." Roland nodded. "I couldn't have pulled it off so easily without your help, either."

"Cheers."

"Cheers."
