As dusk approached, jack-o'-lanterns everyone had made hung all around the Villa. They came in every bizarre shape imaginable, but it wasn't time to light them yet.
With Riolu's help, Gible had finished the first jack-o'-lantern it was happy with and hugged it delightedly.
"Gible~"
"Riolu~"
Riolu smiled. There was a reason it was good at crafts. It had learned back when those children had abandoned it and it had just become a Stray Pokémon.
It often curled up outside a craft shop, where the owner fed and looked after it. It also watched the old craftsmen inside make little toys.
Unfortunately, business had been poor, and the craft shop had closed. A cake shop had taken its place, and the new owner hated filthy Stray Pokémon. Whenever Riolu appeared, he sent a few Snubbull to chase it off...
"Riolu~"
Let's find somewhere to hang it~
Riolu smiled as it spoke. Everyone else's jack-o'-lanterns had already been hung up.
"Gible~"
Gible nodded. It wanted somewhere high, but since it couldn't fly, it could only try the rooftop.
They went upstairs together. The Villa had a flat roof with no overhead covering, where Mingyou usually hung the laundry to dry.
When the two little Pokémon arrived, they ran into Mingyou and Ogerpon, who had just finished putting up jack-o'-lanterns. The two were heading downstairs to prepare the pumpkin feast for Trick-or-Treat.
"What brings you up here?"
"Gible~"
"You want to hang your jack-o'-lantern? I'll help. If you just leave it on the roof, the wind might blow it off. We'll need to fasten it down."
Speaking gently, Mingyou led Gible toward the backyard side of the roof. Wire had already been secured along the railing; it would take only a minute to hang the jack-o'-lantern there.
He didn't hang it for
