Power Progression

Background / History

Calyrex once ruled the Galar Kingdom. It defeated Glastrier and Spectrier with the Fairy King’s Sword and Fighting King’s Shield, then later gave those weapons to Zacian and Zamazenta to help defeat Eternatus. Eternatus’s Darkest Day devastated the kingdom, drained the land’s energy and left Calyrex gravely wounded. As people abandoned their faith in it, Calyrex lost much of its power and fell into a long sleep 374 375.

Nearly twenty years after awakening, Calyrex saw a boy in Postwick playing a handheld Pokémon game. The encounter sparked its interest in games; it eventually decided to make one itself. Hoping to earn money, gather faith and restore its power, it founded a group first called the “Turnip Cult,” then renamed it Turnip Studio 207 208.

Calyrex came to Kitakami looking for Mingyou, whom it had previously encountered through an online gaming account. Mingyou brought it to the Manor’s Video Game Store. Calyrex stayed to earn startup funds, helping plant trees and pick fruit while trying to recruit the resident Pokémon for its studio 207 208 209. After Calyrex restored the Manor’s orchard following a Team Rocket raid, Mingyou offered to fund an initial game project 214 215.

Calyrex later helped Keldeo undertake Zacian’s swordsmanship trial in another timeline 373 375. Back in Galar, it investigated Macro Cosmos’s Energy Factory and discovered Rose’s attempt to control Eternatus, but became trapped beneath Hammerlocke. During the ensuing crisis, Calyrex reunited with Spectrier and defeated Eternatus with the attack it had been unable to carry out thousands of years earlier. It then chose to help the injured rather than demand recognition as Galar’s forgotten king 465 466 475.

Appearance

Calyrex is a small, floating Pokémon with a large crown-like bud on its head and a thistle scent. Its Radiant Flower has not bloomed during the documented events 206 207.

• Dark-green, pearl-shaped structures around its neck and dark-green arms ending in white hands 206.
• Wings edged in dark green, with blue, gray and white interiors; a grayish-white body and slender white legs 206.

Personality

Calyrex speaks and poses like a king, but its ambitions often take ordinary forms: winning online games, recruiting employees and selling a game. It is proud of its abilities yet easily tempted by food and the prospect of funding. Its schemes can strain relationships at the Manor, though it takes its game-making dream seriously 207 208 209 423.

It also shows care beneath its theatrics. Calyrex restores Mingyou’s ruined harvest, deliberately pushes Keldeo toward training, and ultimately protects Galar from Eternatus without requiring its people to remember who saved them 214 373 475.

Abilities & Skills

Bountiful Harvest

• Calyrex’s presence encourages plants to take root and grow even while its faith-derived power is weak 209.
• With the Meadow Plate, it restores blasted trees, regrows fruit and ripens unripe crops across the Manor in less than a minute 214.
• That large-scale restoration exhausts it; Calyrex says it still cannot use its power freely without the power of faith 214.

Mental Power

• Calyrex uses psychic power to survey its surroundings, summon Glastrier and work with computers 214 374 423.
• It hurls Zygarde away from Liko and later catches the falling Eternatus and Rose without letting them damage the ground 393 475.
• It can make casual observers forget it over time, much as they would forget a passerby. This is not immediate memory erasure, and Mingyou’s prior knowledge of Calyrex prevents the effect from working on him 207 373.

Mounted Combat

• The Reins of Unity let Calyrex call upon its steeds. It summons Spectrier across a great distance during the battle against Eternatus 374 475.
• While riding Spectrier in Stellar Terastallization, its Astral Barrage precisely strikes targets across a fifty-kilometer radius. It follows with spectral wisps that drain Eternatus’s energy 475.

Equipment / Items

• Meadow Plate — temporarily provided by Mingyou to help restore Calyrex’s power in exchange for agricultural assistance 210.
• Reins of Unity — used to summon and ride its steeds 374 475.
• Fairy King’s Sword and Fighting King’s Shield — Calyrex’s former weapons, given to Zacian and Zamazenta to counter Eternatus 375.
• Cherish Ball — Calyrex buys one and catches itself in it 319 320.

Relationships

• Mingyou — Manor host and studio backer; their teasing relationship grows into cooperation, including during the Eternatus crisis 208 215 466 475.
• Spectrier — longtime steed that searches for Calyrex after its awakening. They reunite in battle, though Spectrier is angry that Calyrex once ate all its Black Radishes 412 475.
• Glastrier — Calyrex’s beloved horse, summoned in the Crown Tundra 374.
• Zacian and Zamazenta — Pokémon Calyrex adopted and raised in its own timeline; it entrusted them with weapons that could counter Eternatus 375.
• Keldeo — Calyrex provokes it into accepting Zacian’s trial, then helps arrange its training 373 375.
• Ogerpon — initially distrustful after Calyrex lifts her cloak without permission; later accepts its use of the Meadow Plate and sympathizes with its exclusion by others 209 210 215.
• Penny and Kirlia — collaborators on Calyrex’s game; Penny also assists with its promotional work 423.
• Eternatus — destroyed Calyrex’s kingdom and defeated it in the past. Calyrex finally brings it down at Hammerlocke 374 375 475.

• Calyrex requires prospective online apprentices to revere turnips and never eat them. It faints when it discovers Mingyou and Ogerpon eating a turnip dish 192 215.
• Its game Poké-Mon sells five million copies in its first week 449.
• Calyrex recruits Pokémon to compose music for its games and later organizes a larger band 246 250 449.
