Background

Kakashi is the son of Hatake Sakumo, Konoha's celebrated White Fang. Following Sakumo's death, he becomes isolated, cold, and obsessively mission-focused; missions with him develop a poor reputation because he prioritizes completion over comrades' safety. His teammates repeatedly complain about him, and Danzō seeks to recruit him into Root. The Third Hokage rejects the request and instead rebuilds Kakashi's team around Rin's medical support and Obito's passion, placing them under Namikaze Minato. 5 21

Under Minato, Kakashi advances rapidly through Konoha's ranks. He becomes a Special Jonin and Jonin candidate, then receives command of the Kannabi Bridge infiltration team as a newly promoted Jonin.
