Background / History

At his birth, the Nine-Tails, along with the remaining chakra of Namikaze Minato and Uzumaki Kushina, was sealed into Naruto through the Eight Trigrams Seal. Minato and Kushina's deaths were subsequently staged so they could leave Konoha in secret. 164 167

Naruto's status as the Nine-Tails' Jinchuriki became known to local villagers after a chakra leak caused destruction in his neighborhood. Although the Third Hokage prohibited discussion of his identity, Naruto still faced open hostility from residents. 186
