Background / History
Life in the Far North
The Snow Empress is a naturally born ice-and-snow spirit and the ruler of the Far North. Unlike the Ice Empress, she has no species clan of her own. She adopts Ice Bear King Xiaobai, who later rules a separate territory with cultivation approaching 300,000 years 19 46.
Her friendship with the Ice Empress spans several hundred thousand years. Before meeting Ling Han, she also visits the Star Dou Great Forest many times, but stops returning after suffering a hidden injury. Only the Ice Empress and a few other close Soul Beasts know about her condition 19 20 23.
Meeting Ling Han
Ling Han uses the Snow Empress’s importance to the Ice Empress to coerce the latter into sacrificing herself. He then releases the Ice Empress’s aura from his newly acquired left-arm Soul Bone to summon the Snow Empress 18.
Finding the Ice Empress’s aura and Soul Ring in Ling Han’s possession, the Snow Empress believes he has killed her closest friend. She attacks with Emperor Sword: Icebound Peerless, but Ling Han narrowly overcomes it with the Ice Dragon King’s assistance. He subsequently suppresses her without inflicting any injury 19.
The Ice Empress’s surviving soul appears and explains her sacrifice in terms of Ling Han’s potential to become a god, withholding the coercion involving the Snow Empress. The Snow Empress agrees to accompany him and eventually become his ninth Soul Ring. Her decisive reason is the prospect of remaining together with the Ice Empress, rather than his strength or promised godhood alone 19.
Recovery and Soul Core Research
At Nouding Academy, the Snow Empress chooses a room in Ling Han’s residence. He notices her existing injuries and gives her Ultimate Ice-infused Cold Spring water. She later accompanies him and Tang San to the Star Dou Great Forest, then receives further treatment at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 20 23 24 25.
She advises Ling Han on Soul Core formation, explaining that forming two simultaneously is theoretically possible but extraordinarily difficult. During his two years of research, her guidance on the first Soul Core helps him succeed far more quickly than he could have alone 25 26.
Sacrifice and Survival
After Ling Han reaches level 90, the Snow Empress willingly proceeds with her promised sacrifice. By then, she recognizes that she has fallen for him. She trusts his promise to restore her even if he never becomes a god 26.
Before the ritual, they spend a day in Heaven Dou City, sharing a meal and a quiet evening. Ling Han buys her a peach-blossom hair ornament. The sacrifice takes place in a prepared cave guarded and concealed by the Ice Dragon King’s soul 26.
Her sacrifice produces a 680,000-year Soul Ring with six golden markings and a Head Soul Bone. Their Soul Power and spiritual power support Ling Han’s simultaneous formation of his Spiritual and Ultimate Ice Soul Cores. Together with his accumulated cultivation, these gains bring him to the peak of level 98 26 27.
The Snow Empress’s soul joins the Ice Empress in Ling Han’s Sea of Consciousness. When the Ice Empress confronts her about her feelings for him, she reassures her that they will always be sisters 26 27.
Resurrection Efforts
Ling Han develops a Bone-Regrowing Blood-Fusing Pill formula to restore both Empresses, but still needs rare ingredients, suitable bodies, and corresponding Soul Rings. The replacement beasts cannot have lower cultivation than the Empresses possessed in life 25 26 35.
The Snow Empress helps mobilize Xiaobai and the Ice Bears to search the Far North for the Ten-Thousand-Year Nine-Grade Ginseng King. She personally explains her voluntary sacrifice to Xiaobai after the bear mistakes Ling Han for her attacker 46.
After the ginseng king is captured, Ling Han selects Di Tian’s body and Soul Ring for her resurrection, judging him a better fit than the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King because both Di Tian and the Snow Empress are land-dwelling Soul Beasts. His stated goal is to restore her in human form before his own ascension, giving her a foundation from which to pursue godhood independently. The restoration itself is not shown 47.
Appearance
- Hair: Snow-white, reaching her waist and fluttering in the wind 19.
- Eyes: Ice-blue, ordinarily carrying a calm, emotionally restrained expression 19.
- Clothing: A long ice-blue dress that accentuates her graceful figure 19.
- Overall impression: Described as breathtakingly beautiful, resembling a fairy untouched by the mortal world 19.
- Later accessory: A pink peach-blossom hair ornament purchased by Ling Han before her sacrifice 26.
- Soul form: Appears as an illusory figure after losing her physical body 46.
Personality
The Snow Empress usually maintains an icy, composed exterior and prefers peace and quiet. Even when she believes the Ice Empress has died, her face remains cold and tearless while she moves to avenge her 19 20 24.
Her reserve does not prevent dry humor or tenderness. She bluntly agrees when Ling Han asks whether he looks like someone who would abduct a Soul Beast for his disciple, yet becomes visibly touched by his attention to her injuries. His affectionate use of “Xue’er” makes her blush 20 24.
Her trust in Ling Han grows through his care, ambition, and willingness to act on difficult promises. Although she becomes jealous of Qian Renxue and worries that his romance could distract him from resurrecting her, she ultimately reaffirms her belief in him 26 51 52.
