Background and History

Bo Zhe is Bo Hanmo’s younger brother and Bo Miao’s second brother. He initially challenges Fang Yao over her interest in the family’s money and is promptly pinned down and beaten. After hearing her thoughts warn of the family’s possible deaths, he begins calling her his sister-in-law and publicly supports her against Chen Qing 3 6 27.

Fang Yao’s thoughts also warn that Bo Zhe and his childhood friend Lu You could be manipulated into turning against each other and dying. When Xiao Xi appears to take a knife for him, Bo Zhe is moved—until he hears Fang Yao’s assessment that the rescue was staged. He keeps his suspicions to himself while looking into who may be behind the scheme 7 10 11.

Appearance

Bo Zhe is described as good-looking and more flashy in his presentation than Bo Hanmo 17 128.

• He has a visibly defined abdomen, which Bo Miao checks after he is struck by a stone 147.
• The stone leaves a facial cut, but Fang Yao says it is not deep enough to disfigure him 147 148.

Personality

Bo Zhe is outspoken, teasing, and protective, particularly toward Bo Miao and Fang Yao. He challenges Bo Miao’s unsuitable boyfriend and rushes to confront Cui Hao when the latter tries to charm Fang Yao. His temper can make him easy to provoke: Fang Yao has to stop him from hitting Cui Hao and falling into a scheme 34 36 103.

He also enjoys gossip and time with his friends, while openly preferring to live on the family business’s dividends rather than learn to run the company. His complaints and bravado often give way when Fang Yao or Bo Hanmo confronts him 53 114 148.
