Ch. 1Starting on hell difficulty
Plot points and events
- During a violent storm on Kedrona Island in May 1991, Luo Bin wakes in a gorge piled with corpses. He is badly injured, disoriented, and unable to climb out.
- He attracts the attention of two Dark Wizards, Hendry and James, by throwing stones toward the gorge’s rim. They mistake his survival for a breakthrough in their experiments and levitate him out.
- When Luo tries to flee, Hendry tortures him with the Cruciatus Curse. The wizards bind him and take him to an altar, where an implanted memory reveals that he is a transmigrated boy from another world, raised at St. Mary’s Orphanage and captured for magical experiments.
- Hendry forces Luo to drink a red potion, and the pair activate an Ancient Magic Circle. The island rapidly becomes scorching hot as a red mist gathers above the altar.
- Luo’s body begins to burn and dehydrate, leaving him fearing that he will die as a dried corpse.
Character developments and interactions
- Luo Bin moves from confusion and desperate hope of rescue to horror as he realizes his rescuers are dangerous. Despite severe pain, he tries to escape, showing a stubborn will to survive.
- Hendry and James are revealed as ruthless, exhilarated Dark Wizards who treat Luo as an experimental subject. They discuss his revival as a scientific breakthrough and proceed with their ritual without regard for his suffering.
- The wizards share a confident, conspiratorial partnership: James proposes using the altar, and Hendry eagerly carries out the plan.
