Cyril's scream rang through the Consciousness Space.

A ripple spread from the white line embedded between his brows, and his body went rigid. But seconds later, the pain he had expected failed to come. All that remained was the faint sensation of a needle prick.

Cyril took a few ragged breaths and raised his head again.

"Mr. Gu, I have to admit, the power you possess is astonishing."

The initial panic had faded from his face. A hint of a smile had even returned to his lips.

"But tormenting a soul is a far more delicate art."

Gavin said nothing. He simply watched him calmly.

Cyril glanced down at the fine lines over his chest and abdomen, his voice growing composed.

"If you release me first, I can teach you the real Cruciatus Curse. That is true torment. It works on the soul as well as the body."

Gavin seemed unimpressed. "Everyone in Azkaban knows that curse."

"The incantation is the simplest part. What truly determines the effect is your emotion when casting it, where the magic strikes, and your understanding of pain."

Gavin leaned forward slightly, as though interested.

"What emotion?"

"You have to genuinely want the other person to suffer. Anger isn't enough, and neither is hatred." Cyril stared at him, deliberately slowing his words. "You have to enjoy the process. Otherwise, the curse will do little more than make someone itch."

Gavin frowned, apparently thinking.

"Release me first."

Cyril shifted his bound wrist, his smile widening. He thought he had an opening.

"Some things have to be demonstrated in person. You've already killed me once. Are you really worried I'll escape from your Consciousness Space?"

Gavin studied him for a few seconds, then smiled.

"Fair point."

Cyril smiled too. The first step had worked.
