Lupin's practical training was nothing like Moody's. Lupin had students team up against dangerous Fantastic Beasts, while Moody made them fight each other. It was the difference between PVE and PVP.

"Everyone, remember: stay inside the designated area. Make your way from start to finish, dealing with any Magical Creatures and problems you encounter. Don't let the traps take you down, either. I'll give you an overall grade based on your performance. I've learned a little from Professor Moody: anyone who scores below an A will have to write a five-inch essay." Lupin smiled. A few students looked miserable.

"I think Moody's lessons are more fun," Ron said as he strode through the dim woods. Lupin had marked out a rectangular area, and they had to cross it from end to end while dealing with the Magical Creatures inside.

"I think this is pretty good," said Neville, who was paired with Ron. "I didn't expect the first challenge to be a Boggart."

"I thought you'd fail at the Boggart."

"...I'm still terrified of Snape."

"That spider of mine still looked scary... but it wasn't much of a challenge. Look, there's definitely a Kappa in that puddle." Ron pointed his Wand at a murky pool and slowed down.

They had covered Kappas in an earlier lesson. They were water-dwelling Magical Creatures from Japan, found in shallow ponds and rivers.

They looked like monkeys, with scales covering their bodies and webbing between their fingers. A hollow on top of the head held the water that gave them their strength.
