Will had already guessed what this might be about. He had spent all his spare time lately writing his paper on the Potion Spell, with Snape and Flitwick advising him. Professor Flitwick had probably called him in to discuss it.

In Professor Flitwick's office, Will pulled up a chair as though he knew the place by heart.

Professor Flitwick poured Will a glass of Sherry Juice Soda. It was his favorite drink, and Will liked it too.

The professor took a sip. "Hmm... About that spell. I think its structure is closer to Runes than to modern charms. That makes it too difficult to learn, which won't do your spell any favors."

The spells Will had developed worked by shaping magic into specific structures rather than relying on gestures and incantations. For wizards as accomplished as the Hogwarts professors, learning his method was not especially difficult.

But for wizards accustomed to the modern system of charms, his "spells" were not easy to use.

"So what do you suggest?"

"Break it down and turn it into a more modern spell, of course. It would be easier to use and more readily accepted.
