In the library, Will placed one carefully chosen book after another into his Book Trunk. He was in a good mood. He had found plenty today.
"Will? Will?" Absorbed in his search for books, Will heard Black calling from the side.
"Lumos." Will raised his wand. He did not answer right away; some Dark Magic books could use voices to lure Wizards closer.
In the sudden blaze of light, Will spotted Sirius nearby. Sirius shielded his eyes with one hand. "Hey, turn off that light! It's blinding."
Will dimmed the light. "What is it? Why are you looking for me so soon?"
"Soon? Looking for you?" Black looked Will up and down as though he were seeing something strange. "What are you talking about? You've been in here all day. Professor Dumbledore asked me to make sure you went back tonight."
"All day?" Will raised his wrist. His "watch" showed five in the afternoon. Just then, his stomach growled.
Only then did Will realize how absorbed he had been in reading and searching. A whole day had passed.
"Were you planning to sleep here?" Black looked around. He seemed to come here rarely himself. "Doesn't look like a place anyone should stay."
Of course it was not. Black's common sense was sorely lacking in some respects. A place packed with Dark Magic books was no place for an ordinary person. That cursed book was the best example.
The only reason nothing had happened after he left Will here was that Will was different. Another third-year student might not have made it out today.
Still, Will had not come away empty-handed. Scattered through his Book Trunk were materials on Ancient Magic.
Most of them were manuscripts by Phineas Nigellus Black.
