Unfortunately, though Will was fascinated, he could find no more information. The years from 1890 to 1892 in particular seemed to have been erased. All he knew was that Goblins had caused trouble, and even that received only a passing mention in the records.

Will made a mental note to keep looking. If the Wizarding World had the internet, he could at least have looked up a rough account of its history.

Will's days grew fuller. Without the Time-Turner, though, he was back to relying on the Draught of Living Death and Baruffio's Brain Elixir to get by. In that respect, life felt more like his first and second years.

As for Sylvia—Will was considering asking Michael for advice. Of everyone he knew, Michael was the best at making girls happy. The guy was like the player every university seemed to have.

For now, though, Will's priority was to speed up his study of Ancient Magic.

The more he learned, the more abstract Ancient Magic seemed. It was undeniably powerful, and its effects on emotions were far more severe than those of modern magic. If the current system of magic was a gun, and modern Wizarding Wars were fought with people shooting at each other, then Ancient Magic felt more like a large bomb—one that could "evolve" into a high explosive, the Tsar Bomba, or even a nuclear weapon...

And given how difficult Ancient Magic was to master, ordinary Wizards would struggle to use it well. To most of them, it might as well have been calculus to a three-year-old. A Wizarding War fought with Ancient Magic would be like a group of children, unaware of the danger, setting off all kinds of explosives together. There might not be many people left alive in the Wizarding World afterward.
