A blinding green light shot from the tip of Voldemort's wand with astonishing speed.
Dumbledore did not retreat a single step. He did not even change the way he held his wand. He merely flicked his wrist, as gracefully as though he were conducting a grand symphony.
A tree beside him slid soundlessly in front of him, blocking the Killing Curse like a shield.
The green light struck the tree, blasting it into splinters and filling the air with dust.
Dumbledore waved his wand, tracing an arc through the air. The tree twisted and shrank, and Harry watched in amazement as it vanished.
"Tom," Dumbledore said calmly. His bright blue eyes regarded Voldemort gently through his Half-moon Spectacles. "You're always in such a hurry."
A flash of fury crossed Voldemort's newly restored face. He gripped his wand so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
"In a hurry?" he sneered, his voice sharp with scorn. "I'm clearing away obstacles, Albus! Just as I'll clear you away!"
He whipped his wand through the air with savage force.
Jagged black stone spikes burst from the ground, rising like a forest of black stone. They shrieked as they tore through the air toward Dumbledore from every direction.
Harry's eyes widened. He wanted to warn Professor Dumbledore, but the ground beneath his own feet was trembling too. A chill gripped him—I'm about to be skewered!
Dumbledore glanced at Harry and drew a small circle in the air with his wand.
The hard black stone twisted and changed shape, becoming countless little earthworms. They opened their toothless mouths and curled docilely at Dumbledore's feet like a flock of tame pets.
An earthworm popped up beside Harry's foot. Then the soil beneath him began to writhe, carrying him swiftly behind Dumbledore.
"Still the same Transfiguration," Voldemort said
