Ch. 421A Feast in the High Tower

Dumbledore gave Will a magically shrunken book trunk filled with manuscripts, and the students held a banquet for the champions before the Third Task. Will and Sylvia agreed to travel to France after the tournament, and June 24 arrived.

Will entered the shifting maze and encountered a passage full of adult Blast-Ended Skrewts. Elsewhere, Harry survived Devil’s Snare by casting Wandless Magic, while Will’s confrontation with the creatures remained unresolved.

  • Will was teleported to a narrow passage as the maze scattered the Champions and rearranged its hedges.
  • Harry lost his Wand after Devil’s Snare caught him, and Strange urged him to use Wandless Magic.
  • Harry cast Incendio without a Wand, drove off the vines, and drew cheers from the spectators.
  • Harry picked up his Wand, but the hedge wall moved away and left him on the ground.
  • Will found a dozen adult Blast-Ended Skrewts blocking the passage, and they began edging toward him.

Ch. 424Cedric and the Acromantula

Will destroyed a group of Blast-Ended Skrewts while searching the maze for Harry, and Cedric escaped an Acromantula by blinding it and fleeing. Cedric recovered from minor scrapes and continued deeper into the maze.

  • Will blasted and burned the Blast-Ended Skrewts, then pressed on to find Harry.
  • Bagman announced that the maze could shift and that Cedric had encountered an Acromantula.
  • Cedric evaded the Acromantula's attack and found that his spells barely affected its shell.
  • Cedric blinded the Acromantula with a Conjunctivitis Curse and a Blasting Curse, then escaped through a narrow passage.
  • Cedric checked his minor injuries, confirmed he had not been poisoned, and continued into the maze.

Ch. 425Harry Saves Krum

Harry defeated Krum in the maze, saved him from a Venomous Tentacula with Dumbledore’s antidote, and realized he could summon his Firebolt. Elsewhere, Will disarmed Sophie Robert after deflecting her spells.

  • Harry and Krum dueled in the maze, with Krum using powerful War Magic that forced Harry to rely on Strange’s warnings.
  • A Venomous Tentacula caught Krum, but Harry disarmed him, cut the tendrils, and gave him Dumbledore’s antidote.
  • After the Rescue Team arrived to help Krum, Harry summoned his Firebolt and continued into the maze.
  • Will fought through magical obstacles and encountered Sophie Robert at a fork in the path.
  • Sophie attacked Will with several spells, but he blocked or dodged them and disarmed her.

Ch. 426The Competition Heats Up

Will easily defeated Sophie, while Fleur eliminated Semyon after rescuing him from a Tebo. Fleur and Marc then encountered two powerful Statue Guardians in the maze and struggled to fight them.

  • Will defeated Sophie with ease, then left her to practice as Bagman announced her elimination.
  • Hobert celebrated Will's victory, while Slytherins cheered and Goyle, Crabbe, and Pansy watched from a distance.
  • Semyon fled a herd of Tebos until Fleur knocked one down, then stunned him and eliminated him from the competition.

Ch. 427A practical little witch-hunting trap

Pheobe and Marc defeated two stone statues and continued deeper into the maze, while Will reached a clearing where the Triwizard Cup stood. Harry’s broom could not enter the maze, and he narrowly escaped a concealed pit before pressing on.

  • Pheobe and Marc used fire and then water to shatter two attacking stone statues.
  • Will navigated the dark maze, avoiding poisonous mushrooms and freezing an Ashwinder, then found a clearing containing the golden trophy.
  • Harry repeatedly tried to summon his Firebolt, but an invisible barrier kept it outside the maze, forcing him to continue on foot.
  • Harry fell into a pit of sharpened stakes, turned falling earth into a wooden board to break his fall, and climbed out using a conjured ladder.

Ch. 428A Hidden Move and the Final Melee

Will waited with Cedric for Harry at the Triwizard Cup, while Cedric secretly prepared traps around the clearing. When the other Champions arrived, a melee broke out, Cedric was stunned, and Will asked Harry if he wanted to win as Pheobe neared the Cup.

  • Will waited for Harry beside the Triwizard Cup, and Cedric joined him before laying nearly twenty traps around the clearing.
  • Pheobe and Marc attacked Will while Ivan Petrov challenged Cedric, and the Champions began fighting across the clearing.
  • Pheobe ran toward the Cup as Harry arrived and moved to help Cedric against Ivan.
  • Cedric tripped on a branch and was struck by Ivan's Stunning Spell, then called for Will and Harry to get the Goblet of Fire before losing consciousness.
  • Will told Harry that Cedric was alive, then asked him if he wanted to win and raised his Wand.

Ch. 429Voldemort Returns! Will Is in Danger!

Harry and Will won the Triwizard Tournament by reaching the cup together, but the cup transported them to a graveyard where Voldemort and the Death Eaters ambushed them. Harry was left captive while Will’s apparent capture proved to be a deception, and he went with Mr. Malfoy to meet Yaxley.

  • Will raised an earthen wall to block Pheobe and Marc, then helped Harry reach the Triwizard Cup.
  • Harry and Will touched the cup together and were transported to a clearing in a graveyard.
  • Voldemort appeared with the Death Eaters, and they seized Harry and took away his shoe, preventing him from using its Portkey.
  • A Death Eater dragged Will away while Harry called for him to escape.
  • After leaving Harry behind, the Death Eater helped Will clean his robes, and Will told Mr. Malfoy to take him to Yaxley.

Ch. 430Routing the werewolves

Will joined Lucius and the Death Eaters as they prepared to raid the Department of Mysteries, while Fenrir Greyback’s werewolves attacked Diagon Alley. The Order and its allies subdued the pack, but Kingsley reported that something else had happened.

  • Lucius brought Will to a meeting where Corban Yaxley assigned him and Barty Crouch Jr. to handle the Time-Turner during the Ministry raid.
  • Fenrir Greyback led more than thirty werewolves into Diagon Alley and ordered them to bite people.

Ch. 431Surprise Attack on the Department of Mysteries!

Yaxley and the Death Eaters fought their way into the Department of Mysteries and defeated its Unspeakables to reach the Time Room. As Yaxley prepared to take the Time-Turners, an elderly wizard appeared and stopped him.

  • Death Eaters led by Yaxley overwhelmed the Aurors guarding the Ministry corridors and advanced to the Department of Mysteries.
  • Yaxley ordered his Death Eaters to attack the Unspeakables guarding the Time Room, and they defeated them.
  • Yaxley entered the Time Room with Behrens and Crouch and spotted the Time-Turners inside a floating Crystal Bell Jar.
  • An elderly voice interrupted Yaxley as he prepared to take the Time-Turners, and Yaxley froze when he saw who had arrived.

Ch. 432Voldemort resurrected!

Voldemort used Harry’s blood and a Death Eater’s sacrifice to regain a human body, then challenged Harry to a duel. Dumbledore arrived and revealed that the Portkey had been a trap, but Voldemort attacked him with the Killing Curse.

  • Harry remained bound in the forest while Voldemort prepared a resurrection ritual, and Will was held elsewhere.
  • Voldemort placed his father’s bones, a Death Eater’s severed hand, and Harry’s blood into the cauldron, then submerged himself in it.
  • Voldemort emerged with a human body, declared that he had returned, and ordered Harry to duel him.
  • Voldemort freed Harry and returned his wand, and Harry prepared to face him.
  • Dumbledore appeared and revealed that Harry’s Portkey had been a trap; Voldemort then cast Avada Kedavra at him.

Ch. 433Dumbledore vs. Voldemort (Part One)

Dumbledore and Voldemort fought a destructive duel in the forest while Harry watched from behind cover. Dumbledore countered Voldemort’s attacks with Transfiguration and ended the chapter forming an enormous earth giant.

  • Voldemort attacked Dumbledore with the Killing Curse, but Dumbledore moved a tree in front of him to block it.
  • Voldemort summoned stone spikes and black fire, while Dumbledore transformed them and the surrounding forest into worms, birds, and weapons.
  • Dumbledore shielded Harry from the attacks, and he turned a Death Eater’s attempted attack into a fall into water.
  • Voldemort sent cursed arrows and a swarm of venomous purple snakes at Dumbledore, who erased the arrows and blasted the snakes into dust.

Ch. 434Dumbledore vs. Voldemort (Part Two)

Dumbledore defeated Voldemort in their duel, but Voldemort escaped with the Death Eaters. Harry then told Dumbledore that Will had been taken away, leaving Dumbledore shocked and furious.

  • Voldemort destroyed Dumbledore's earth giant with lightning, but Dumbledore revealed he had visited the Cave and knew about the Horcruxes.
  • Dumbledore and Voldemort exchanged spells, with Dumbledore's barriers stopping Voldemort's attacks.
  • Dumbledore bound Voldemort in glowing chains and turned the surrounding earth and plants against the Death Eaters.

Ch. 435Grindelwald Appears

Grindelwald appeared in the hall and attacked the Death Eaters while distorting the space to keep Will and Barty Crouch Jr. from reaching the Time-Turners. The two reached the Crystal Bell Jar and broke it, but Grindelwald ordered them to stop as they grabbed for the Time-Turners.

  • Yaxley recognized Grindelwald and urged Will and Barty Crouch Jr. to rush for the Time-Turners.
  • Grindelwald killed a Death Eater with a spell, and Yaxley used another Death Eater as a shield to protect himself.
  • Grindelwald raised Blue Flames that burned several Death Eaters to ash and warped the hall's space, leaving Will and Barty Crouch Jr. unable to reach the Time-Turners.
  • Yaxley fired Killing Curses at Grindelwald, but Grindelwald evaded them with an illusion using light and shadow.
  • Grindelwald redirected Will and Barty Crouch Jr. into the Crystal Bell Jar, and Barty Crouch Jr. shattered it with a spell.
  • Will and Barty Crouch Jr. reached for the Time-Turners, but Grindelwald told them to stop.

Ch. 436The Time Room Explodes!

Will seized a Time-Turner as Grindelwald’s spell struck the damaged crystal bell jar, causing the Time Room to explode in blinding light. Yaxley awoke in a shattered landscape of mismatched eras, while Will reappeared as a silver-gray Phoenix in the Underground Cavern.

  • Grindelwald’s shadow spell froze Will and Barty Crouch Jr. as Yaxley rushed toward the Time-Turners and a Killing Curse struck Barty.
  • Grindelwald urged Will to act, and Will grabbed a Time-Turner while Yaxley ordered the surviving Death Eaters to attack.
  • Grindelwald cried out against tampering with time and fired a red beam that struck the damaged crystal bell jar as silver light flashed around Will.
  • The Time Room erupted in white light, then fell silent and fractured into patches from different ages.
  • Yaxley saw a Death Eater’s body age and decay in mismatched sections until he collapsed into dust and rotting remains.
  • Yaxley found his own left leg withered, while a silver-gray Phoenix appeared in the Underground Cavern, confused and still hearing a ringing in its ears.

Ch. 437Goodbye, Santa Claus

Will’s Time-Turner misfired and sent him to 1608, where he was reborn as a phoenix before returning to human form. Unable to travel forward again, he realized time might be striking back and saw Santa Claus approaching in a sleigh.

  • Will collapsed in a cavern after his Time-Turner sent him far earlier than intended, and an ancient phoenix burst into silver flames before a tiny chick emerged from the ashes.
  • Will returned to human form, found that one of his Wands had burned up, and used his remaining Wand to make himself a robe from the ashes.
  • Will checked the Wizard’s Eye and learned that it was December 26, 1608, then Apparated to the snowy Scottish wilderness as a phoenix.
  • Will tried to set the Time-Turner to 1994, but the device failed to move him forward and his watch still showed 1608.
  • Will remembered Santa Claus’s warning that time would retaliate, then saw Santa Claus approaching in a red sleigh.

Ch. 438A Bone-Deep Chill! Time's Revenge!

Will met Santa Claus 385 years before the gift he had received from him was meant to be given, and Santa invited him inside to discuss his Emotion Magic. Santa explained that time had divided his existence into separate, repeating periods, leaving him unaware of the memories and actions of his other selves.

  • Santa Claus recognized Will as a visitor from the future and said Will was not on his Christmas list, then invited him into a magically created cottage.
  • Santa Claus examined Will’s Book Trunk and Joy Core, recognized the influence of his own Emotion Magic, and was surprised that Will had developed it mostly through his own research.
  • Will told Santa Claus that he had studied Emotion Magic for a little over half a year after their first meeting.
  • Santa Claus explained that he was confined to a repeating time period from 1503 to 1608 and lacked memories of his other time periods.
  • Santa Claus said time had split him into separate versions as revenge for his past pranks, leaving Will unsettled by time’s power.

Ch. 439Hidden in Time

Will learned from Santa Claus about the dangers of time travel and how to improve his Joy Core. After Santa Claus departed, Will realized time had made him appear much younger and that he would need to remain hidden in history.

  • Santa Claus warned Will that time could attack Wizards who traveled through it and advised him not to make major leaps.
  • Santa Claus explained that Will's Joy Core contained mixed emotions and taught him about sowing joy to obtain a purer core.
  • Santa Claus examined Will's core and shared Ancient Magic knowledge with him through the night.
  • Santa Claus noticed that Will looked seven or eight years old, and Will suspected Phoenix Form had prevented time from aging him to death.
  • Santa Claus warned Will to remain hidden in history to avoid provoking time, then left in his Sleigh as the Snow Hut dissolved.
  • Will watched Santa Claus disappear and considered staying hidden in time as he traveled through history.

Ch. 440The Witch-Hunting Era

Will witnessed a village witch hunt in 1608 and saw that its victims were ordinary people, while the soldiers used the Church’s orders as cover for paid violence. He left considering another way to hide.

  • Will flew over the Scottish Highlands, decided not to go to Hogwarts, and searched for a place to study magic in seclusion.
  • Will discovered a burning village and watched soldiers abuse and accuse its inhabitants of witchcraft.
  • The soldiers drowned a young woman and declared her a witch because she floated, while children and other villagers faced execution.
  • Will used his Sight and confirmed that none of the accused villagers were Wizards.
  • Will recalled the history of the Witch-Hunting Era and considered another way to hide.
