Grindelwald waved his wand, and a mass of shadow swept toward them like a living thing.
Will did not know what spell it was, but a chill ran through him. Ice seemed to crawl over his body, locking him in place. He could not even move a finger.
Barty Crouch Jr. was in the same state. Shadow covered him, and his movements grew stiffer until his fingers stopped just short of the Time-Turner, as though he would never reach it.
Terror and grief crossed his face, as if he had seen some dreadful future.
"Damn it—"
Yaxley saw Will and Barty frozen before the Time-Turner and lunged toward them. "Wake up!"
If something had happened to them, he would use the Time-Turner himself!
Behind him came a hoarse, low voice. "Avada Kedavra."
Two Killing Curses flew toward Will and Barty, aimed straight at their backs.
As Yaxley charged closer, Will suddenly felt lighter. The chill binding him vanished.
A hoarse voice sounded beside his ear, carrying the faintest hint of a smile. "Do it, Will."
Will's pupils contracted. He whipped his head toward Grindelwald.
The old man gave a slight nod, an inscrutable light glinting in his mismatched eyes.
The pressure around Will eased, and the force twisting space around him disappeared too. He hesitated no longer. He hurled himself at the Time-Turners like a cannonball
