"Safety?" Will had no idea what Voldemort meant.
"That's right. Your cover could be blown. You need to be more careful." Voldemort's tone was grave. "This operation should have made it clear to you: it was a trap set by Dumbledore."
"Right..." Will nodded, looking somewhat bewildered.
Voldemort shook his head inwardly. His student had everything going for him: extraordinary talent, good looks, unwavering loyalty. But when it came to intelligence and strategy, he was nowhere near Voldemort's level.
How could Will have missed such an obvious trap from Dumbledore?
"I fought Dumbledore when I was resurrected. He realized then that there was a spy close to him," Voldemort explained. "The Portkey in Harry Potter's shoe wasn't meant to help him escape. It was meant to bring Dumbledore to us."
Surprise crossed Will's face. Voldemort continued, "So this may well have been Dumbledore testing you. You're in a precarious position."
For a while, you need to lie low. Unless it's important, don't contact me or the Death Eaters.
Leave here immediately. And Lucius told me you've been experimenting on Wizards?"
"Uh, yes," Will explained. "They're Potions experiments. I wanted to—"
"Whatever the experiments are, stop them. Dispose of those Dark Wizards as soon as possible. Have Lucius help you if necessary. Ideally, finish it tonight.
"If Dumbledore finds out, he'll arrest you on the spot. In the worst case, Severus may come under suspicion too. He was your Potions Professor, after all." Voldemort had put an immediate stop to Will's experiments.
After hearing all that, what could Will say?
Voldemort wasn't entirely stupid. He had caught on quickly that Dumbledore was "hunting for a mole."
But stopping his experiments... Will sighed inwardly. The sacrifices I make for the safety of the Wizarding World.
He was just an ordinary young Wizard,
