As Potions Class drew to a close, Snape kept his word and fed Neville's Shrinking Solution to his toad, Trevor. Hermione started forward to help Neville, but Jerry stopped her in time.
Ever since Professor Lupin had arrived at Hogwarts, Snape's sharp tongue seemed to have grown sharper still. His remarks were enough to make anyone shudder.
Hermione, you'd better stay out of his way, or he'll make you cry with those cutting remarks.
"Let me handle it," Jerry said with a helpless sigh. He had a thick skin and was used to Snape's snide remarks. He could just treat them like hot air.
But before Jerry could speak, Snape's cold, piercing gaze swept over him. "Mr. Green, I don't recall inviting you to show off."
Jerry: ...
"Everyone, gather round," Snape called. "Let's see what becomes of Longbottom's Toad. If he brewed his Shrinking Solution correctly, it will turn into a tadpole. Of course, I have no such expectations. If he failed, the Toad may well die."
The Gryffindor students watched anxiously, while the Slytherins looked eager. Snape gripped Neville's toad, Trevor, in his left hand and carefully scooped a few drops from Neville's potion with a small spoon.
The potion had changed from orange to pale green. Snape poured the drops down Trevor's throat.
The classroom fell silent. The only sound was Trevor gasping with his mouth open. Then, with a soft pop, he transformed in Snape's palm into a wriggling tadpole.
The Gryffindors burst into cheers, and Harry happily patted Neville on the shoulder.
Snape, however, looked thoroughly displeased. He took a small vial from the pocket of his robe and dripped a few drops of liquid onto Trevor. The tadpole immediately turned back into a plump toad.
"Potter!" Snape roared, his sharp gaze fixed on Harry
