The Owlery, a cylindrical stone building that housed the school's and students' owls, stood atop the lofty West Tower of Hogwarts. With no glass in its windows, the winter wind swept through the openings, leaving the place bitterly cold.

Hundreds of owls perched on the rafters all the way up to the top of the Tower. Straw covered the floor, with tiny animal bones buried beneath it.
