In the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, inside Quirrell's office.

"Master," Quirrell said, "I really don't understand why you'd take this risk. Is that young wizard so important?"

A raspy voice came from the back of Quirrell's head. "Fool! Do you think Dumbledore doesn't suspect you?"

"As for Jerry Green, he appears modest and refined, but that's only a veil over his ambition. He can't hide the pride and ruthlessness in his eyes. His hunger for power will make him our friend, not our enemy!"

Even after hearing Voldemort's explanation, Quirrell remained uneasy. "But Jerry Gr—"

"Shut up, fool! You dare question me?"

Cries of pain and screams soon rang out from Quirrell's office.

After leaving Quirrell's office, Jerry jogged toward the library. Before he could go in, he spotted Hermione and Snape in the corridor outside.

Thinking Snape was giving Hermione trouble, Jerry hurried over and stepped in front of her. "Professor, is something wrong?"

Before Snape could answer, Hermione tugged at Jerry's sleeve and whispered in his ear, "Jerry, Professor Snape came to find you!"

Snape ignored their little exchange. "Come with me. Someone wants to see you." He turned and walked away.

Jerry apologized to Hermione, then hurried after Snape.

On the way, Snape spoke first. "What did Quirrell want with you?"

"Professor Quirrell mentioned some Dark Magic in class. He was worried it might affect me, so he gave me a little counseling. That's all."

Everything I said was true! Whether you believe it is up to you, Snape, Jerry thought.

"Hmph!" Snape said nothing else, but his cold snort made it clear he didn't believe Jerry.

"Jerry Green, don't say I didn't warn you. Stop trying to be clever and stay away from Quirrell."

Jerry nodded repeatedly, agreeing with everything Snape said. Then he asked, "Professor, who wants to see me?"

"Dumbledore. What, did you break a school rule and get caught?"

Ignoring Snape's jab, Jerry wondered if Dumbledore had already found out what had happened in Quirrell's office.

Damn it! That old bee hears about things way too fast!

Before long, the two arrived before a Waterspout Gargoyle.

"Remember the password: Fizzing Whizzbees. Don't waste time. Get in there!"

Seeing that Snape remained where he was, Jerry couldn't help asking, "Professor, aren't you coming up with me?"

Snape gave no answer. He stood there in silence, as though deep in thought. Then he abruptly turned and strode away.

Jerry approached the gargoyle and gave the password. The staircase to the Headmaster's Office appeared.

At the top of the stairs, he found a spacious room with tall windows overlooking the sky and the distant landscape.

Portraits of past headmasters hung on the walls. Ancient books and artifacts filled the desk and shelves, with the Sorting Hat perched atop a bookcase.

Beside the desk, a red bird stood on a Bird Perch. It had to be Dumbledore's Phoenix, though from the look of it, Jerry guessed it was close to being reborn.

"Headmaster Dumbledore? It's Jerry. Are you here?"

Jerry stopped in the doorway and called out twice, but no one answered. As he stood there puzzled, the Sorting Hat spoke from the bookcase. "Come in, boy. Dumbledore will be here soon."

"Long time no see, Mr. Sorting Hat!"

"Shut up. I don't want to talk to you!"

Jerry was about to explain himself to the Sorting Hat when one of the headmasters' portraits called out, "Child, come over here!"

"Look at him! One of our Slytherin students. See how noble and refined he is? Allow me to introduce myself, child. I'm Phineas Black. You may call me Headmaster Black—"

"Shut up, Black! You were the least popular headmaster Hogwarts ever had—"

Before Jerry could greet them, the headmasters in the portraits began brawling inside Black's frame. It was quite a sight.

"Sorry, Jerry. Something held me up!"

Jerry turned to find Dumbledore back in his office, accompanied by a sprightly old man carrying a large suitcase.

"You two haven't met, so let me introduce you. This is Newt Scamander, an expert on Fantastic Beasts. Newt, this is Jerry Green, the boy you wanted to meet."

Newt studied Jerry closely, then glanced at Dumbledore before saying, "Hello, M-Mr. Green. I'm Newt Scamander."

Excited, Jerry shook Newt's outstretched hand. "Hello, Professor Scamander. My friends and I love your book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

They had barely exchanged greetings when Dumbledore cut in. "Jerry, I called you here today mainly to introduce you to Newt. Professor Scamander will be at Hogwarts for the next few days, so feel free to ask him any questions. For now, you should head back."

Jerry couldn't make sense of it. Dumbledore had summoned him, and now Dumbledore was sending him away.

Still baffled, Jerry left the Headmaster's Office.

Once Jerry was gone, Newt's expression changed. "Albus, that child just now..."

Dumbledore smiled, unsurprised by Newt's reaction. "You recognized him?"

Newt gave a rueful smile. "Anyone who lived through those days would see some resemblance."

"You guessed right. He is indeed a descendant of the Grindelwald family."

Seeing that Dumbledore had no intention of hiding it from him, Newt asked, "Do Gellert Grindelwald and his followers know the boy exists?"

Dumbledore considered the question for a moment. "Gellert knows. He was the one who entrusted the boy to me."

"Albus, are you certain Grindelwald is still in Nurmengard?"

Dumbledore shook his head. "Gellert vanished ten years ago, after entrusting the boy to me."

Newt stared at him in shock. "Why didn't you stop him? Have you forgotten how dearly we paid to defeat him?"

"For the Greater Good!"
