"Awake?"
A voice called Chen Feng back to reality.
Chen Feng opened his eyes and rolled his neck. Regaining control of his body felt as glorious as taking that first breath after surfacing from drowning.
"I'm fucking back."
Joy spread across Chen Feng's face. By summoning the Water Ghost, he had successfully killed himself, triggered the save-load system, and escaped a hopeless situation.
"Your clothes. Off. Now!"
"You lot. Help him."
At the Pig-Headed Man's bellow, several trainees in camouflage swarmed forward, ready to strip Chen Feng.
This again?
Chen Feng remembered being stripped bare by these same bastards the first time he came here. Naked and displayed like a monkey in a zoo, he had been robbed of every shred of dignity.
But this time, he was no longer a lamb waiting for slaughter.
"Get lost!"
Chen Feng roared and shoved with both hands, sending the Imposter Trainees sprawling.
Just as before, every reward obtained from the system had been preserved, including the brick-burst-level physique he had trained in his previous life.
That was the system for you—one proof, eternal proof!
"You bastard!"
Seeing its underlings beaten, the Pig-Headed Man flew into a rage and reached out a massive hand to grab Chen Feng.
Bring it on!
Chen Feng also wanted to test the limits of his body in a contest of pure strength, without factors like electric shocks getting in the way!
He raised both arms to meet those pig hands, intending to shove the Pig-Headed Man back through brute force.
At the same time, the Pig-Headed Man surged forward, trying to use its weight advantage to crush Chen Feng beneath it.
Bang!
Their four palms collided, and a dull impact boomed through the dark little room.
The shock numbed Chen Feng's arms, and the marble beneath his feet cracked.
The Pig-Headed Man froze for a moment too. Its pig brain clearly couldn't comprehend how the scrawny human before it could match its strength head-on.
Afterward.
For breaking the rules and resisting the Drill Instructor, Chen Feng was sentenced to another seven days of solitary confinement.
As soon as the monster left, Chen Feng called up the system:
[Save-load count: 2] [System points: 9] [Available blessings: Lu Xun, Diaochan, Ma Chao] [Commandable ghosts: Three-Star Water Ghost ★★★, traits: loves water, loves rain] [Available plans: Hero Training. Stage one completed. Spend 1 point to unlock the stage-two B-rank training plan?]
Chen Feng was delighted. "Not only did I keep my trained physique, but the follow-up training plan is still here too?"
"Great, great, great. Once I escape and find somewhere safe, I'll go into seclusion and train."
Next came another round of choosing one of three boxes.
One was the exchange system KH-02-SBFS from the science-fiction category.
One was the quest system XX-01-DKQD from the immortal fantasy category.
As for the new box, its identifier was ZT-03-LTQ. It said, "Everyone in the group is so talented, and they all have such a way with words. I absolutely love it here!"
The category, the initials in its name, and what it said.
Chen Feng could tell at a glance that this was a chat group system from the Myriad Heavens and Myriad Worlds category.
A chat group connected characters from different times, spaces, and backgrounds through a group messaging tool, allowing them to interact across worlds.
In plain terms, it meant making a group chat with big shots from other worlds.
It sounded pretty useless.
But for example, after activating the chat group, Chen Feng might be able to add a Great Golden Immortal from a Cultivation World as a friend and obtain their cultivation methods, contact a mad scientist from a science-fiction world to acquire futuristic technology, or exchange ideas with a wizard from a magical world and learn magic.
"This system definitely has an incredibly high ceiling. Used well, it's no worse than an exchange system, and it doesn't even need points."
"But now isn't the right time to activate it."
To forge iron, you first needed strength of your own.
Chen Feng had nothing to his name right now. Even if he added a big shot, he had no worthwhile resources to trade.
And if he ended up joining a Villain Chat Group, he would have to deal with scheming and intrigue too.
With that in mind, Chen Feng decided to activate the quest system first and earn some points.
He activated XX-01-DKQD.
"Aren't you from an Immortal World?"
"Come on, give me a few quests to slay demons and exorcise evil!"
[Ding! Congratulations on activating the check-in system!]
"Check-in?"
Chen Feng froze, then immediately saluted. "Sorry, sir. Didn't recognize you at first."
If there were a ranking of the world's most idiot-proof systems, daily check-in would take second place, and nothing would dare claim first.
Its function was simple: as long as its owner "checked in" at a specified time or place, just like clocking in for work, they could receive generous rewards.
Chen Feng took a quick look. Based on his experiences, three check-in locations had been unlocked so far:
Zero-star check-in location: Cihang Bridge.
Zero-star check-in location: Happiness Internet Cafe.
Four-star check-in location: Fourth Mental Hospital.
After examining the details, Chen Feng discovered that the more dangerous a check-in location was, the higher its difficulty rating, and the more system points it awarded in return.
Cihang Bridge and the Happiness Internet Cafe had originally been three-star and four-star check-in locations, respectively. But because the monsters there had already been eliminated or brought under his control, they had been downgraded to zero stars.
As for the Fourth Mental Hospital.
"Why does it only have four stars?"
"Is it because that so-called Dean Ox isn't here?"
Whatever. Let's try checking in first.
Chen Feng silently willed himself to check in.
[Ding! Congratulations on successfully checking in at Fourth Mental Hospital—Professor's Office and Fourth Mental Hospital—Instructor Guard Room. Visit two more locations to complete the check-in.]
Huh?
What does it mean, two more locations?
With a thought, Chen Feng summoned a map of the Fourth Mental Hospital before him.
The section covering the Internet Addiction Academy was perfectly clear and easy to read.
But the sanatorium section was shrouded in fog and indistinct. Two unexplored locations were marked on it: the Basement and the Nurses' Station.
He had originally planned to run straight out of here.
But now, it looked like he would have to visit the sanatorium.
Chen Feng crushed the lock with one hand and pushed open the door of the dark little room.
It was noon, and the sunlight was dazzling enough to hurt his eyes. Chen Feng shaded his brow with a hand and gazed into the distance.
Beyond the metal wire fence stood a white, three-story building. Every window was covered with wire mesh to prevent escape. If not for the sign on the roof reading "Sanatorium," he would have mistaken it for a concrete prison.
"That looks dangerous. I know nothing about the sanatorium or the Rabbit Nurse's abilities. If I force my way in, I'll probably end up just like last time."
"I need a way to get inside with a legitimate excuse."
After a brief moment of thought, Chen Feng recalled the notes left by the Senior who had killed herself.
In an emergency, you could feign madness to gain entry.
Pretending to be insane would keep the monsters from attacking you and even make them care for you as a patient. It might sound unbelievable.
But in fact, through his observations over this period, Chen Feng had discovered that the hospital's monsters followed certain rules in how they moved and attacked.
For instance, in the Internet Addiction Academy, as long as you didn't violate the ten rules for bad children, the monsters would never attack you.
So feigning madness was the rule for surviving in the sanatorium.
Once he understood all this, Chen Feng stripped off his outer clothes and trousers, leaving only his underwear, then sprinted toward the Mental Hospital, shouting as he ran:
"I'm insane! I'm, I'm insane!"
