Zhang Deming fiercely opposed this. He publicly declared on multiple occasions, "Fuck those aliens. As long as I'm still breathing, Earth will never give up its nuclear weapons."
President Wang Xin of the Earth United Government described Zhang Deming as a madman running an asylum.

Two days before the nuclear disarmament referendum, the two held a major televised debate at a stadium, clashing fiercely for nearly two hours.
The moment it began, Wang Xin produced the figures and went on the offensive. "Do you know how much it costs to maintain all the nuclear weapons in the world? 119 billion!
