Where was the system notification?
After Chen Feng cleared Goldfish Catching, the Daily Check-in had registered immediately. This time, though, the system had gone silent.
Maybe he had to get the Game Coin before the Check-In would count. If so, he should have taken a shot just now.
It seemed like a reasonable explanation, but his instincts told him it was wrong.
He felt as though he had overlooked something important.
He went over the Air Rifle rules again:
[One monster, one bullet. A player who knocks down ten monsters can obtain a Game Coin from the owner.] [Watching during the game is strictly forbidden.]
"The Goldfish Catching rules said the owner would reward the player with a Game Coin. These say you obtain one from the owner."
"That's practically spelling it out."
"Doesn't the owner fit the definition of a monster?"
"The rules never said the monsters were only the balloons. We just assumed they were."
Once it clicked, Chen Feng raised his gun and said to the owner, "Hand over the Game Coin."
The owner said nothing. It suddenly brandished its scissors and lunged at him.
It met the black muzzle of his gun.
Within ten paces, a gun was faster and more accurate.
Bang!
"I couldn't hit the balloons, but you're a much bigger target."
Looking at the owner sprawled on the ground, Chen Feng thought, That was close.
The first nine monsters had all been the same. Hiding the last one in plain sight was a nasty trick.
Especially since the fish-owning boss at the previous attraction had only been there to explain the rules. It was easy to let your guard down around this one.
Then came a click!
Now Chen Feng understood why watching this attraction was forbidden. If you saw one person fall for the trick, you could clear it easily afterward.
After searching the owner, Chen Feng found a Game Coin.
[Ding! Congratulations! You have successfully checked in at the Horror Amusement Park's Air Rifle attraction.]
Meanwhile.
At the edge of the forest.
Captain Wu was furious. "Damn it, that kid went in without a word. When Xiao Hu comes out, I'm giving him a slap."
Lin He snickered inwardly. Comes out? He's probably never coming back.
But a second later, he couldn't laugh anymore.
Chen Feng walked out of the forest without a scratch.
Lin He, the captain, and the pastor were stunned. None of them spoke, but their faces said it all: You're alive?
Not just alive, but uninjured?
Lin He couldn't make sense of it. His convictions nearly shattered.
Captain Wu was about to ask, "The owner didn't catch you off guard?"
Then he remembered Meng Chengcheng was still there. She hadn't played yet. If she heard him, he would lose a Game Coin and be disqualified from completing the mission.
So however badly he wanted to know how Chen Feng had cleared it, Captain Wu had to keep quiet.
Then another, more frightening thought struck him.
The man before him looked exactly like Liu Xiaohu, but his behavior, speech, and performance were nothing like the cowardly simp Captain Wu knew.
Cihang City had more monsters that could disguise themselves as humans than anyone could count.
What if this isn't Liu Xiaohu?
Captain Wu put a hand on his holster.
Just as his suspicion of Chen Feng reached its peak, Chen Feng dispelled it with two sentences.
Pointing at the forest, Chen Feng asked, "Are you still going in?"
Meng Chengcheng nodded. Even Liu Xiaohu hadn't given up. She had even less reason to run away.
But Chen Feng's next words made her furious. "Chengcheng, there's something wrong with the owner. Be careful. The ten monsters mentioned in the rules include the owner."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Feng felt his pocket grow lighter. The Game Coin he had just earned vanished.
He didn't care. From the start, he had only planned to clear five attractions, collect his Daily Check-in Points, and make a clean getaway.
What good would handing a souvenir doll over to the organization do him?
An Incarnation's life mattered too.
Besides, Chen Feng had realized that performing exceptionally well twice in a row could make everyone suspicious. To play Liu Xiaohu the simp, he had deliberately done something stupid.
The effect was immediate.
Captain Wu's frown vanished. He broke into an exasperated laugh.
No monster would be that much of a simp.
So Liu Xiaohu himself was fine. His brain was another matter.
Meng Chengcheng's face visibly reddened. "Xiao Hu, what do you mean by that? You think I couldn't figure it out?"
Truthfully, she didn't know how to react.
Should she be angry? Xiao Hu had given her a hint. Didn't that mean he looked down on her and thought she would get hurt?
But then again, the owner counted as one of the monsters?
Would I really have figured that out without his hint?
Even the captain, the vice-captain, and Lin He fell for it. If it were me, I might die.
Once she realized that, Meng Chengcheng couldn't bring herself to voice any of her complaints. All she said was, "Just wait. When I finish the game, you and I are going to talk alone."
She tossed her hair and stormed into the forest.
Lin He felt a little better at the sight. Xiao Hu, you really are the biggest fool alive. You know how proud Chengcheng is, but you still did that. Now she hates you, doesn't she?
But just as Lin He settled in to watch Chen Feng explain himself, Chen Feng asked the captain, "Are we continuing today after Chengcheng comes out?"
"No."
Captain Wu looked at his team. Some were wounded, others were barely standing. They needed a break.
"Then I'm a little tired. I'll head back to the hotel."
Chen Feng had been controlling the Incarnation long enough.
The Incarnation and his real body worked like this: whichever one held his consciousness stayed awake, while the other went dormant.
The Trio had been gaming the whole time and hadn't paid him any attention, but leaving his real body asleep indefinitely wasn't a good idea.
Besides, he still hadn't finished today's Hero training plan.
Captain Wu paused. "All right, then. But didn't Chengcheng say she wanted to talk to you?"
Chen Feng replied casually, "We already booked our rooms, didn't we? She can come find me in mine."
You're making the woman you worship come to your room in the middle of the night?
Captain Wu said nothing, but thought, You've got some nerve, damn it.
So when Meng Chengcheng finished the attraction and came out ready to give Chen Feng a piece of her mind, she discovered he had gone back to sleep and stood her up.
She finally lost it. "Liu—Xiao—Hu!"
Captain Wu thought the whole thing was madness.
A simp had actually dared to make the woman he worshipped come looking for him late at night.
And most astonishingly, she really went.
Holding back her anger so she could get an explanation, Meng Chengcheng marched straight to Chen Feng's room as soon as she entered the hotel and pounded on the door. "Open up! Open the door!"
But what happened next was even more outrageous.
The door stayed shut.

Chen Feng was exercising at Happiness Internet Cafe. He had no time to log into his other identity and talk about some damn love story.
As for whether Meng Chengcheng would get angry, he cared even less.
Liu Xiaohu was the simp. What did that have to do with Chen Feng?
